Hello,
I'm new here, and I'm having trouble with my Honda civic. My car is having trouble accelerating up hill, in which the rpm goes up, but the speed stays constant. I have to take of my foot of the accelerator and press it again even harder to reach speeds of 60+. What might be the case? The transmission is a new one i got since January. As well when I reach speeds of 60+ in the freeway, my steering wheel starts to shake abruptly and stops when a decrease speed. What might be the case? Thank you very much and I hope to hear some replies.

Vibrating would most likely be cause by tires are unbalanced, rim bent, or can also need front end alignment.

if the RPMS go up, but the speed stays the same, going up hill aka under 'more load', im betting your clutch is on its way out. Smell anything when this happens? As for 60+ and vibrations, shake your front end down to make sure there isnt any loose parts, then go get your wheels balanced/see if theres a bent rim somewhere while your at it.

Get the wheels balanced as already mentioned. This is likely causing the vibration at freeway speeds.

Automatic or manual transmission?

If its all stock then its not accelerating up hill because the motor isn't powerful at all. Not easy to get stock D16Y8 going real fast uphill at least from what I have seen

Would it be best to shift down to D3 when going up hill, then shifting back to D4 when I'm over the hill? As for transmission fluids, everything fine in that compartment,

well, depending on speed, and assuming you were using a manual trans, yes, it would be better as hondas generally make thier power higher up in the revs.

ON an automatic i would think the transmission would hunt for the right gear and pop you down into 3rd gear automatically. It should, anyway. I dont think i would chance trying to mess with it manually.
