I grew up on the West Coast... LA, Seattle, and Oregon, always loving the import car scene. I always had a soft spot for the EJ8/EM1, and bought my own in 2006 after leaving home for the Air Force - a way to always remind me of home.
This build has been a long time coming. I'm doing the build in stages - exterior, suspension, engine. Currently I've completed my exterior build. Spring is for springs and eventually I'll move on to the engine (thinking about Turbo LS or just a slightly modded B16.
2007: I bought my 96 EJ8 with only 75K miles on the D16Y8 motor. The first thing I did was (oh noes!) install dual projector halo headlights. Oh, I thought they were so cool. I also slapped on an AEM short ram intake.
2008: Did the DIY CTR style upper grill, grabbed some 99-00 taillights, installed a now-despised Flowmaster axleback.
2009: I did a ton of stuff this year as I got my build on the right track.
Winter - Installed a Megan high-flow cat and DC Sports 4-2-1 headers
Spring - Bought some Rota C10s, painted calipers and drum hats. Notice how skinny the tires were. This drove me nuts because my car wasn't lowered. It looked janky. I eventually traded the Rotas for some nice LS Meshies.
Summer - I deployed to Iraq and saved up a bunch of money and bought all the exterior parts I ever wanted - front and rear CTR lips and OEM CTR headlights, GSR gauge cluster, and a few interior pieces. The theme was OEM, so I dropped the Rota C10s and picked up some LS Meshies.
I spent a lot of time thinking about my build while I was deployed. So painting and installing lips came with colormatching the sideskirts and antenna block off, depinstriping, and debadging the car, and relocating the front license plate.
2010 just begun and I already have new stuff in the mail.
