First Honda

I don't really know the appropriate area for this, so I put it here.

I'm looking to buy my first Honda here in a week or so, and I honestly really don't know what I'm doing. I know alot about car's, I even own my own shop, but never gotten into alot of import stuff in depth. With other vehicles I spent alot of money on part's and vehicles, that quite honestly, I never should have. I mean vehicles with no aftermarket support, or super expensive part's, vehicles with for little gain per cost, etc..

So that's what bring's me to Honda's. For my DD, I need reliablility, and fuel mileage. Since I have a truck to haul with when I need to, and other vehicles to drag race, etc. But I don't just want regular old put put car reliability like a Corrola or something, i want something with style, something with potential, something I can be proud to DD. Something like a Civic.

I guess my question is, is there any particular Civic to look for, or any to avoid? Does any one have more potential than another in the end? I've been looking at late 90's hatch's, because I can actually haul a transmission in one, and have a little room, and I've found a few I like, but I really don't know.. Should I go stock? Or B series swapped? Or should I avoid other peoples problem car's?

Basically, any tips for a soon to be Civic owner? Thanks guy's :guns:

if your gonna use it for a daily driver ide say go d series. you can beef em out but not as fast as a b, which is les gas efficient but more power.ide go b swap if youve got the cash

actually in my 93 hatch i got 37mpg with a b18b and right now i have a 95 civic stock d15b7 and im only gettin 30ish. having the greater power and being able to shift lower really helped.

I'm actually onto a 99 Hatch that has 140k on it, and shakes real bad at speed (likely a tire/wheel issue) for 450, lol. I just don't want to buy one that requires an entire different harness, or has some pecular engine that you can't swap anything into or anything like that. If you follow that at all?

for 450 that doesnt sound to bad, if thats the only problem. i'd just replace the whole assembly on the defective side.

Hell, all the other car's I find have 200k on them and start at 2k for a price, Michigan sucks for Honda's.

Honda's, no matter what motor have potential. If you want quick power that you can have some fun with, go b-seires, if you fell like doing a bit of work go d-series, but if you go d and want some pep plan on boosting. Id say find something with a FRESH b swap, low miles on the swap and documentation or reciepts. You may pay a bit more but for what your looking for the "go factor" is already out of the way.

i went through the same decision awhile ago. im in mineapolis and every honda i saw either had a million miles, rust, or someone had f**ked around with it. so go for the clean start, whether u want to swap or not.

dont expect much from a honda, other than great gas mileage. If you bought a stock civic and it has shitty mpg, you probably bought a f**ked up one.

go with the ep3!

Jk. I'm sure you'll find one. In the upper right hand side you'll see civic specs. Might help you out on deciphering trims and their respectable engines.

Thanks, Caption Obvious.

EDIT: Op, I'd definitely go with (as previously stated).. a Grandma Civic. That way you know it hasn't been beaten to s**t (unless it was my Grandma who previously owned it.. then nvm).. and hopefully has low miles. I wouldn't get an already swapped once because chances are it wasn't swapped to drive... like a grandma. Try searching Craigslist in your area, and surrounding areas. Might have to take a little trip to get a good one though. Also, check AutoTrader.
