Is this darn car that rare or something? All I wanted was a bone stock daily driver with a clean title and I'm seeing everywhere from $4500 to as high as $7000 with no mods and a stock engine, fairly clean oem interior....is this year as well as the '99 that rare? Well, maybe rare in the sense that the clean titled ones haven't been molested and salvaged....please give me some insight CC!? I'm sorry for the rant....just been lurking in the shadow of CC on the 6th and the 7th gen forums, those are the two gen body styles that I like, I might do some cosmetic modifications to the car later when I get it but for what these folks are asking its ridiculous! KBB and edmunds are approx. $500 apart and this one guy that i want to buy the car from wants $5000 when Kbb says its worth about $3500 on excellent condition and this car that's for sale is just in good condition, anyhow, MODS if this is in the wrong section, please move it for me.....anyone that can give me a logical reason for this, please give me your .02 cents!

aside from kbb and edmunds, there is supply and demand. as long as some people are willing to pay 5000 for them, people will keep asking 5000 for them. if you think a car is overpriced, just move on, or start picking out flaws to drive the seller down

Might be your area. like stated.

99-00 are the most sought after cause that was the best looking civic for 1, to most people. Its also the last of the body style where alot of honda heads will say that it was the last of the great civics and the new ones had "lost its soul"

Dude. Its honestly the demand in our area. I got my 98 hatch for 5400 O_O. It was purely adult driven though haha and had 80k miles when I first got it. Everything on it was MINT until I brought it home where I have stupid neighbors that cant park for s**t.

:word: This.

The price they bring in is only relative to the price people will pay. I had a K5 Blazer that I sold last year that was worth a hell of a lot more than I sold it for. I had to drop the price way down because after 5 months of trying to sell it, no one would pay what I wanted. I ended up selling it for $2200, even though I had over $10k into it and KBB, Nata, etc said that it was worth around $4500-5000 in the condition it was in.

you really can't trust kbb or any of those pricing sites. they don't take into account the way the economy is going or inflated gas prices. for example, I got a friend who works at a used car dealership, they got a 2006 fully loaded escalade selling for like 18k with 30,000 miles on it. those cars brand new in 06 cost over 30 grand. yet right next to it is an 04 rsx with more miles and isn't the type s model for like 15k.
There's not a whole lot of 99-00 hatches in my area either. and when you do find them their about those prices as well.
I think that hatches just weren't as popular in 1999 and 2000 as it's sister car the coupe. gas prices also that year weren't that high, so people werent looking for the small hatchback style cars they were more into getting the coupes and sedans.
Ever notice how hard it is to find an Si 5th gen hatch? no one really bought them when they were made because at the time gas prices were higher than they'd been in past years and everyone was getting the dx's. I rarelly even see ex's all that often in the hatchback. yet once people caught on around 99-00 si's became more popular, than there was that huge burst of people buying up 01+ si's because of all the options.
I'd just say get a 96-98 hatch and concert the front end to 99-00. that's what a good amount of people do anyways.

Go with the 96-98 :thumbup: More exterior options. More lip options and other looks from other countries.

u live in Cali man...civic is pretty easy to find. with this type of economy, it is a lot harder to sell. i got mine off craigslist...don't trust those bs sites (ex. kbb & carfax (scam). private seller is cheaper than dealer...its mileage is also a big factor. for $7000, it better be damn mint condition with low miles.

any civic with over 100k right now is probably worth $4000 max imo.

I just checked the '00 out, it seems that it's got koni white coilevers with ground control kit, well at least thats what the guy said, i don't really care about that, cigarette holes in the seats, dirty ass carpet, major scratches on the dash area where the glove box is, as well as a lot of door dings with AEM intake, alignments off, BS short shifter knob that i really dislike and to top it off, the bank still owns the title, thats the reason why he wants $5k for it, how do I go about telling him about the problems about the car without lowballing him if i'm willing to only offer KBB pricing of $3k? please advise, I'd like to take this car home with me but not for $5k. Thanks guys.

what do you mean by last gen in hatch form? don't they have 7th gen hatches? 8th gen hatches?
on a side note, why buy a 96-98? what mods can you do to those vehicles that you can't with the 99-00 years? thanks

DING DING DING!

This is why ALL auto sales companies, insurance companies, and credit unions base car values off of NADA value.

NADA takes an avg. every 6 months of what like (similar) vehicles are ACTUALLY selling for. Not just putting a price on it based on year, mileage, etc like KBB.

Kbb = garbage.
NADA = where its at.

Oops, I mean 7th gen hatchback is the last one. 8th gen hatchback is japan and europe only. :oops:

Nada has the same pricing for the Civic hatch I was looking at........
What a concept, that's because that is what the car is actually worth, and what it WILL actually sell for. What do you not understand about it?

Just because you think they should be worth less, does not mean they are.

The car that you mentioned with the burn in the seat. I would not take 5k for that. From what you describe Id go 4k or 4.2 TOPS. haha.

Just keep looking dude. It took me almost over a year to find mine.
