The price they bring in is only relative to the price people will pay. I had a K5 Blazer that I sold last year that was worth a hell of a lot more than I sold it for. I had to drop the price way down because after 5 months of trying to sell it, no one would pay what I wanted. I ended up selling it for $2200, even though I had over $10k into it and KBB, Nata, etc said that it was worth around $4500-5000 in the condition it was in.
once I am done with mine i want about 9k and that is with a turbo kit and a fully built h22 in it
Just because you dump $10,000 into it, dosent mean the car is worth $10,000. Cars are worth the MOST in 100% stock form. Im trying to sell my 00 sedan for ~$2300. If I swap an H22 in that I payd $4000 for, dosent mean I can sell my Civic for $6000. Its not the way the everyday person see's it. Maybe a person who's into imports, who has money to blow will pay that much for it, but the everyday person sure as hell wont.....

Think of it this way. You put rims, a body kit, exhaust, etc on your car. You decide you dont want it and decide to trade it in for something else at the dealership. Say you paid $2000 for your car, and you put another $5000 into it. Well, NADA says your car is worth $2500. The dealership isnt going to give you $7000 because of those extra mods you did. They're gonna give you $2500, because thats what its worth.

Aside from the rough incident I had with the guy (he's local to me), if I were to be in the market for a boosted car, i'd pay 9 for his hatch.

It's built motor (sleeved, pistons, rods, head work, etc. etc.), GOOD parts, CLEAN body/paint, clean interior, killer turbo setup, etc. There is A LOT more than 10k into that car. It's well worth the asking price to the right buyer. Obviously, it'll be hard to sell it. But it will sell.

Obviously, people selling built cars aren't targeting them at people looking for an econo civic to save them gas money  They're targeting people that KNOW what kind of work, money, and time it takes, and understand how much they would save to buy one already built.

I've got well over $20,000 into my civic (not including the initial cost of the car). The motor alone has over $7000 in parts, then there's suspension, interior, etc. etc. To me, my car is worth the $7500 I'm asking for it. Which I (as well as everyone I've talked to about it, thinks its a hell of a deal) but nobody has bought it because it's a race car. Which i understand.

Basically, what I am getting at. Don't jump on someone when you don't know what you're talking about. ;) I completely agree that "mods" (generalized) do not add value to the avg. market. However his car wouldn't be marketed to the avg. market (as previously stated).

There's a thread on another forum I'm on. This man is selling a 2000 Civic DX hatchback with 240k miles, COMPLETELY STOCK, with a newwww paintjob. Here's the ad:

FS/FT 2000 honda civic HB
mileage- 24x,xxx on Y7
asking price- $3,500 O.B.O

Like the title states,i've got a 2000 honda civic hatchback for sale or trade. Its pretty clean inside and out. Has a fresh NHBP paint job from maaco(still have reciept),look really clean. The car is lowered on no name ebay coilovers and i also have brand new monroe struts to include(still have reciept). No longer has tach, took out in put in an ex cluster.took off aftermarket exhaust and replaced with new stock exhaust. Its a 5speed and has 24x,xxx miles on the original D16Y7.Doesnt smoke or burn any oil at all, runs extremely well for the mileage.Only mechanical problem is it has the common cold start surge, it stops after car warms up.Pretty sure the iacv just needs to be clean or replaced, quick easy fix. mainly for trade(honda, acura, nissan) but will sell if close to asking price.pm me if need more info
Wow. Here is my PM convo:

Are you flexible on the price?

somewhat.how much are u offering?

$2,000

lol not that flexable.somewhat of a lowball dont u think

I apologize if you are offended. No. That is not a lowball at all. I checked the market, I checked KBB, and I checked NADA as well. Your car is worth 1,800-2000 (fair condition) It wasn't even worth over 2,400 in excellent condition. Trust me I tried to find a value remotely close to your asking price. A 10 year old base Civic hatchback with a stock engine, 240,000 miles, steel wheels without hubcaps, low quality aftermarket springs, IAC leak (you think) So I think you are expecting WAY to much for that Civic. If you don't want to take that it's fine. All I did was do the research and I'm offering you what is fair for that car, that's all.

no offense taken.might be true, but my cars clean as hell and ive seen 96 p.o.s hatchs with "si frontend"s with sohc's sell on here
for 3800 all day.know my price is somewhat high but a buyers always gonna try and talk ya down.plus like i said my cars clean as hell.pics dont do it justice
I was entertained by the fact that just because his car was "clean as hellll" meant that it was worth twice as much as it really was. It wasn't even that clean. The interior was all ghetto wire rigged and everything.

This reminds me of when I was selling my EM1.. blue book was like $7,700 and I was getting offers for like $5,000. The car was super clean, I was the second owner with 85k miles. I ended up getting $7,600 for it though
