Windows 7 is giving a "consider changing your battery error" which is pissing me off, since this is a new laptop with no problem's since i installed it.

I'm considering installing Ubuntu but i have a few question's and seeing that this thread is old i wanna get new info seeing that information and version's change.

What it the best version for a x64 laptop with 4 gig's of ram running 2.20ghz?

How easy is installing driver's and update's?

being that im a windows guy since forever, im clueless toward's Ubuntu nd im worried about f**king s**t up nd my driver's not working etc. etc. Btw i have a HP DV4 1313 DX.

Ubuntu is a good OS to use for newbies as well as experienced users with Linux. Go ahead and download the latest release for x64. As I remember, the distros now come with a LiveCD of the system so you can try it out before installing it.

You should also look and see if they have support for your chipset and any other hardware your laptop has.

edit;
as far as updates, it comes with an update program, similar to Windows update

Windows 7 is giving a "consider changing your battery error" which is pissing me off, since this is a new laptop with no problem's since i installed it.
Do these steps.

Change the 'Critical battery action' setting to "Do nothing"
1. Activate the power scheme you want to modify.
2. Hit your Windows key, type 'cmd' in start menu, press "CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER" when a box pops up, press 'Continue'
3. Type this in without the quotation marks "powercfg -setdcvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_BATTERY BATACTIONCRIT 0"
4. Your current power scheme will show "On battery: Do nothing"

Problem solved.

Ubuntu is a good OS to start off with, just remember to read up on alot of the common console commands because you will be using the console for most every day computing.

I'd suggest Linux Mint (http://www.linuxmint.com/) it's designed off of Ubuntu but simplified for Windows users switching to Linux.

You'll want to get the x64 edition.

Drivers are becoming easier to install since Linux is beginning to make up a good chunk of of the market. You'll still run into drivers that need to be installed manually, but this is where reading up on console commands will help you.

Updates are installed from a program that comes preinstalled with Ubuntu

Some more distros of Linux you could consider is Mandriva or Lycoris.

Always remember to give back to these distros. They are community driven and open source, a 10 dollar donation is perfectly acceptable and more is evem more helpful.

I dunno why you two are having problems. I just plug my hard wire in, with the wireless enabled and Ubuntu downloading the proper property drivers for my wireless card.

System > Administration > Users and Groups

in between Help and Close you should see a little padlock thing that says 'click to make changes', enter the password you set. Select your user name, then properties, tab over to user privileges. If Administer the system is not check, check it. Then try.

Other than that, I dunno. When I installed mine, I didn't have administrator privileges.
