wiring help?!?!

Ok so i bought a new radio to put in the car, Clarion i love it!! well once i took out the radio that was in there when i bought it, a Jensen the person who had it before me completely BUTCHERED the wiring inside. they cut out the stock harness and hard wired it in there. after i used my Haynes to figure out the wiring i came to a stump in the road. i got everything hooked up and was left with 2 wires, my illumination wires, they are red and red with a black stripe. so i looked at an aftermarket harness and figured out they should be orange, well on my radio i have only 1 orange wire and i tried to connect them both to it and got nothing. i tried each of them separately and still nothing. i have no idea what i can do with them and i have know lights on for my gauge cluster or my climate controls except the green lights on the buttons. the are both hot wires which i found out the hard way when i tried to ground one n blew the fuses. any ideas or any help is much appreciated!!!!!

Does your radio harness have a red wire and yellow wire? You yellow wire will hook to your constant power and the red will hook to the wire that is only hot while the key is on.

In your case you said there is an orange wire which may be the same wire that is yellow on most other harnesses. Grab yourself a test light and find out which one is hot all the time and then which one is only hot with key on and go from there.

He is talking the orange wire on the harness from the clarion that is for illumination and dimmer. There is always an orange wire coming from any radio harness. Its never "supposed" to be another color. So that orange wire is not going to be a hot wire.

The hot wires he is saying are the ones on the stock car wiring itself. The wiring diagrams should show you exactly what to wire up and what wires each one are. You may be able to just wire in another stock harness, cause there may be some type of bypass for those illumination wires. Sucks that the previous owner hacked that, i used to install that stuff and it was a pain in the ass big time when one came in like that.
