and also he said it had speed sensor and reverse sensor , idk what those r so would they b in side the tranny? casue idk what they are and would they just b in the tranny?
along with all tht i got a pair of active headers,
all the above was for 250$!!!!!!

also i know i need to buy an obd2b ecu im getting one for 30$

and then a clutch master cylinder and a slave cylinder, if you have one please sell to me lol

then a shift boot i will b getting a type r one along with a type r shift knob

and then for a flywheel, cluth , and a pressure plate i was woundering sience the tranny is a 95 should i get the clutch kit for a 95?
i was thinking about buying this one off of ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1992-1993-1994-1995-HONDA-CIVIC-1-5L-NEW-OEM-CLUTCH-KIT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5190393340QQitemZ350312018752QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

or this one....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EXEDY-OEM-CLUTCH-KIT-1992-2005-CIVIC-1993-1995-DEL-SOL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem518f03b4fdQQitemZ350291735805QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

let me know what u think ive done so far and what i should do to improve thanks...

Go with the Exedy, since its a proven name in clutchs. Plus, they make OEM Honda clutches. The speed and reverse sensor SHOULD be in the tranny. If you want, PM me some pictures of the tranny, and I'll let you know if they are on it. :thumbs up

Bah first post, but quick question as I will be starting this swap this weekend. For the IACV. I currently have a 98 EX D16y8. Do I need to replace the IACV with a 2 wire one? Or can I just do the rewire without changing anything on my current IACV or Intake manifold? Nothing under the hood is changing except the auto to manual swap. Thanks.

Yes. Auto y8's have the 3 wire IACV mounted on the throttle body. 5spd y8's have the 2 wire IACV mounted on the backside of the intake manifold You'll need a 5psd y8 intake manifold and IACV to mount to it, you can keep the same auto throttle body, and just not wire up the IACV (nor the coolant lines running to it).

OR, you can keep everything as it is, and just have CEL's for the missing auto trans solenoids. The auto ECU will run a 5spd motor, it'll just throw CEL's for the auto trans parts that are missing that arent pluged in.

But will it still run properly? Because right after this car is done I have to attend a meet that's about a 3 hour drive north. Don't wanna break down. Thanks for your help tho.

Great post! I have a 2000 civic hx I know the worst! but I am wanting to change the junk CVT to a 5-speed, I need to know what comp. to get? I think it originally came with a vtech (not sure) but it has a D16Y5 in it, I am really not sure what comp. I need? And if anyone has any of the parts on the list please let me know? thanks

You'll need a 5spd HX ECU. Y8 wont work b/c it runs a different version of Vtec. Fuel maps will be different.

Just to clear up some confusion.

If your going from a auto y7 to a 5spd y7, you do NOT need to change your intake manifold setup. Both auto and 5spd y7's use a 3 wire IACV.

You only need to change manifolds when going from auto y8 to 5spd y8 OR if you go from auto y7 to 5spd y8 (Mini-Me convrsion). Auto y8's use a 3 wire IACV just like the y7's, whereas 5spd y8's use a 2 wire IACV. Therefor, you would need a 5spd y8 manifold and a 2 wire IACV to mount to it, and you'll need to re-pin it on the ECU side of the harness.

Sup everyone! Do you think $650 is a good deal for a tranny swap ? The guy said he'll charge me $200 for labor and the rest for the parts. I have a stock 97 civic sedan lx

$200 for labor is dirt cheap. Most shops charge $800 just for labor. If you can get the entire swap done for $650, including parts, Id do it. Just make sure the guy is reputable.

Yeah $200 to me seemed waaay too low for labor unless the person needs quick cash.?
The guy is doing it outta his home he also said he does engine swaps nd such.
Any questions i should ask to get some facts about his work would help thanks.
I really hate driving auto =p

I would ask him for some references. I charge $450 or so for labor, and I do it out of my garage. Then again, Ive done it numerous times before, and have vouches (here on ClubCivic, too for that fact). Ask him how long he's been working on cars, how many 5spd swaps he's done (not engine swaps, 5spd swaps), etc.

Thanks for the help EJ6Civic27
Do you think it's worth it do to the swap or should I just sell the car and find a 5spd. everyone tells me to sell it and not waste my time

It all depends on the availability of the 5spd swap parts. For me, I got everything I needed within 4-5 months, all from the local junkyard, and through friends. So for me, it was definately worth it. I think overall it is worth if, IF DONE RIGHT. This is something you dont wanna cobb together. Do it right, and you'll be fine, and it'll be worth it.

Yeah exactly I would only want it done if done right. I'm more of a noob when it comes to cars and such but still learning something new everyday. I'll look into it more and bargain for parts since I'm still a student with no job >.<
