So, i've got this spare d16y8 block.

and i'm gonna boost it
and daily it.

i've thought about getting forged pistons and some badass rods.

but running stock compression with some head studs

and then basically mirroring my friends build from there. which was a light port and polish, water to meth injection, hondata s300,

he was running 18 psi of boost.

i was thinking about running 10 to 12

what is club civic's thoughts?

this was just bookmarked... for the amount of helpfulness it provided.

thanks bro!
No problem man!

If you want to build the motor with rods and pistons, your compression will change.

Vitara builds can be very powerful and can create great numbers. Remember that if you want to build it, you should have your cylinder walls checked and see how the condition is. You might need to bore/hone the walls..

With a stock d16 you could be in the 220 range with boost. That is actually a lot of power for that small of a car.

Yeah, i'd have a fun little 4dr.

I was just thinking on keeping close to stock comp ratio for more low end torque(as the article confirmed)

i ran 10psi on a stock d16y5 and it was pretty nasty. It put down 200whp and 178wtq it was decently quick and fun as hell for a daily driver. The only prob i ran into was that i wanted to up the boost but didnt build the motor... all in all a very fun project!!

That's solid!!! I've got a four door with a d16y8. I'm really just looking for around 240 whp.

When boosting a y8 , be cautious of the stock oil pump... The stock pump doesnt supply oil very well, the crank in a y8 also only has the one un-champhered oil galley per rod journal vs the z6 crank that has 2 champhered oil galleys per rod journal..Since cyl. #4 is furthest away from the oil pump it is most likely to go first...

Can you break this down a little more? What would be the most advisable thing to do then? Get a z6 crank and "shim" my oil pump?? The turbo stuff is greek to me.

actually shimming the pump puts more strain on the pump and doesnt give any more pressure...trust me ive done this...

i ported and shimmed my oil pump with a .030" shim.... still gave me the same amount of oil pressure....and i ended up with a pin sized hole in the pump 6 months later from the pressure so i had to replace the pump....

so i switched to a endyn racing oil pump....cost 300 bucks(honda oem pump and modded).... but i now have:

25psi @ idle
80psi @ 3krpm

ive done my research and for the y8 motor i would switch to a z6 pump and port it only (if you wanna do it yourself that is).... dont shim it...
