Your post lacks common sense for these reasons.

Police cars are subject to the same speed limits as everyone else, and don't pull over people on the drag strip.
Not when they are in a high speed pursuit.
Other nations use smaller sedans with 2.5L engines that get 30mpg. How many billions could be saved that way?"
Maybe we can have small engines when we dont have so many crazy assholes driving around that cops have to chase after. They are given fast cars and guns for a reason.....so they can protect your ass from all the bad guys.

high speed pursuit? how many of those happen? compared to how many cops just patrol around? arent the highway cars bigger and what thats for?

and how fast does a usual high speed chase go on for? my little civic can get to 100. ram the s**t and get it over with.

At least they're switching it up abit. They have been using the new Chargers and Durangos around my area for a couple years. Cop car is still a cop car, they dont look good in my rearview mirror.

And is it just me or others as well that get nervous when a cop is near you? Even if your cruising legit and all is gravy?

YESSSS!!!!

9 times out of 10 I'm just cruising along, in my own little world, and then BAMMMM!!!! I meet a cop, flip my s**t because I think I am speeding, look down and my going dead on the limit or slower.

Dude you obviously dont get it. Cops arent prepared like this because of what normally happens in their daily routine. They are prepared for what could happen.

f**k it then.let them do whatever they want. if they want a 3.5L twin turbo sport tuned car to do police work that costs 40+k a car that theyll use for five-six years that gets 15 MPG.. let them do it.

While I see your point about cops not really "needing" something like this, it makes sense to have something that is ready for a worst case scenario like having to chase someone. How often does it happen? Probably not that often in our daily lives compared to what we see on Cops. But it's there if we need it. Kind of like car insurance I guess. Why pay for all the extra stuff if you know you drive smart, always pay attention to your surroundings, follow the speed limit, etc.? Why not just pay for the minimum? Just in case something happens.

The only thing I really hate about cops is they think they're above the law. I mean I understand speeding if you're on the way to a call and you don't want to turn on your lights. Some people freak out when they see flashing lights coming their way. That's understandable. But when I see a cop on his cellphone laughing and doing 50 in a 35, that pisses me off.

You can legally write a cop a ticket, and you can legally file charges against the cop in traffic court.

And how exactly do you expect to pull a cop over? You dont have sirens or lights. And ANYTHING that you do to try and pull the cop over, they will pull you over and write you a ticket for reckless driving. Then you go to court saying "I was trying to pull him over for talking on his phone" and the cop says "he pulled up next to me, honking his horn, waving his hands, he cant even drive responsibly." Good thinking:roll:

and Yea, the economy is s**t, i never understood how a country could be in such a slump but yet they have gwap for new police cars like these. I'm not saying don't get new vehicle's but seriously, 38 grand? -___-
The Crown Vic's the cops use now are usually bought for about $15,000 (usually with like 80-100k miles) and after the light bar, light system, radio, sirens, prisoner cage, bumper bar in the front, and everything else that goes into a police car it adds another 15-20 grand into the car, so they are worth about 30-35 grand already. If ford can sell these ready to patrol brand new for only 3k more its a pretty good deal.

Um, how do you figure that?

Police order Crown Victoria Interceptor, they don't order a used Crown Victoria THEN put the police s**t on it.

They buy cars from fleets that sell cars fully equipped with all the Police stuff, etc...
with upgraded engines, brakes, safety features..
I'm sure Police Departments get special discounted prices on these cars..

the Dodge Charger looks more in disguised compared to Crown Vics. Chargers are common cars, as soon as I see a Crown Victoria I think "oh sh*t, a cop!"

my point exactly.

(talking to other person i quoted to prove it)
no car, even a crown vic with 130k miles cost's 12 grand. maybe already equipped with all the cop gear that price sounds reasonable. the new whips are just over priced imo. smh taking advantage of tax dollars where there is no breathing room for it.
