Every Sunday there's a large meet close to my school. I've never really seen it in action until tonight. One of my friends in his turbo accord wanted me to stop down, so I did. And, being a nice night, well over 100 cars/bikes showed up. It's always a huge variety, from civic's to vettes to new camaros to srt-4s, 350z's, some weird show cars, to this hydraulic caddy, a hurst.. you name it, it was probably there. It's just a go, hang out, talk about cars sort of deal. ANYWAYS, the typical douchebags in trucks come along, peel out, do burnouts for a straight minute, smoke up the whole lot then peace...

I know what's coming up, so both me and my friend leave.. I go back to campus, hang out for 10-15 minutes, get some food, then make my way home. On the way home, I have to pass the lot with all the cars..

Long story short, cops were all over the area... 10+ cruisers.. not pulling anyone over.. just... watching. Speed traps everywhere, waiting for people. Soo people take notice of all the police presence, and start to leave as well. Anyways, I drive past, and hit a red light a solid 1/4 mile past the lot. At green, I take my right (no right on red), and notice a cop sitting close by. All of the sudden, he's behind me (no homo), flashing lights, spotlight on.. Then another cop behind him shows up, lights on. At this point, I'm going.. WTF.. I didn't even get up to the speed limit yet.

Cop asks for my s**t.. yadda yadda. He comes back, hands me my stuff (no ticket), then begins to "lecture me" on how it's fine to hang out there, but if we do burnout's, and I quote "We will catch you, all of you". He also says to "warn all my buddies" about this, because they're gonna crack down on it. I told him I left when trouble started, and was at campus getting food (showed him all my groceries in the front seat), then making my way back home and was only driving by.

Soo I'm fine, until I ask him why he actually pulled me over (he never even asked me why)... his reply, was simply to "to make sure everyone knows we're not playing around" ...

Can he do this? This doesn't seem like a reasonable excuse lol. I mean, tint was out of the question (front windows were down), and I was well within the speed limit.. I don't even think I was out of third gear, driving/shifting normally, and speed limit is 40.

I'm not complaining, especially since I wasn't ticketed, but can he actually pull me over for this? I left right when trouble started, and was only driving by the lot. I was singled out.. if I were driving some stock looking car, I would have never been pulled over. And it figures that while I'm pulled over all the cars leaving the lot drive by and give me that "sucks to be you" look... haha

/rant...

EDIT: Damn I didn't know I typed that much, I was in the f**kin zone.

Cliffs:
Large car meet (100+)
Douchebags smoke up the place, then leave
I leave, get some food at campus, then simply drive by 10-15 minutes later to go home
Cops everyyyywhere, one pulls me over and lectures me on burning out, and how they're cracking down etc.. even though it wasn't me (obv, Honda...) and I was only driving by.
I ask him why he pulled me over, and he said "to make sure everyone know's were not playing around", though I was not ticketed..
Can a cop pull me over for this, if this was his "reason"?

No, he can not. In fact, before they do anything they are supposed to tell you why the pulled you over. Often times they will ask you "do you know why i pulled you over?" and they want you to come up with a reason, when they ask i reply with "no, do you?" and they go away. BUT i have talked to someone i know whos a cop, he said he can find a reason to pull anyone over anytime. So in the end, everyones screwed.

That's what I'm thinking.. not sure how NY laws are lol but I know in MA you need a reason, and I don't think to "show us" that they're not playing around counts as an excuse haha.

Its not, but they know there is nothing you can do about it. File a complaint, they put it in the shredder. The only way to get justice is they have wronged, is if you come up with a crazy allegation, like racial beating, in which case they review the dash cam.

just something to think about....

cop already been working 9 hours...
already dealt with god only knows what bullshit....
meth head freaking out at a fast food restaurant...
someone stealing a $10 watch at the local Walmart...
and NOW some grocery store is calling bitching about some kids playing race track in their parking lot...
the captain bitches at the cops..
and they respond...
YES they can stop you and question you... it is reasonable as your car matches the description of those that were creating a problem.. he didnt give you a ticket... it does not sound like he detained you an unreasonable amount of time...
he was just letting you know.. and you told him you were eating.. no ticket.. nothing strange really IMO..

If the cop wants to give a warning, go talk to the kids who are standing by their cars. Pulling someone over requires a reason at their fault. HIS car specifically was not named, a group was. Therefore they need to see something happen, or use their feet, not the sirens.

I agree fully, but when I ask him his reasoning, he should at least give me something decent, lol. Even if he said "your car's exhaust smells like cheese, and I'm lactose intolerant", would be a better excuse than to warn OTHERS. I mean, at least pull over something RWD.. And for all he knew, I could have been just some kid driving by at the wrong moment.. in fact I basically was.

That blows, sometimes they do that s**t. I have no qualms with the 5-0 so it's a moot point for me, but I just wanna point out that you answered your own question....

Totally not being a d**k either, just pointing out the obvious.

Anytime I get pulled over and do not get cited I chalk it up as a win. I understand that you're upset for getting a bullshit excuse for cause.

If you're thinking about going to court or something like that, it's a bad idea. You'll end up being a police magnet.

haha I'm not mad or upset, I was questioning his reasoning for stopping me as valid. This is either my 11th or 12th time being stopped total.. So far I'm either 11/11 or 12/12 in wins... *knock on wood*... Three actual tickets, all thrown out.. A s**t load of verbal warnings... and a couple writtens.. Only 3 were speeding.

So did you enjoy the gathering?
I actually did, very much so, until the douchebags came full of douchebaggery. It's nice to see a lot of cars just hanging out, and there were a lot of nice Honda's there. Saw a nice turbo'd GSR swapped 5th gen, the turbo was HUGE.. He said it runs high 9's... but I highly doubt that.

The Rochester famous STM Ricer did a fly by, and if you don't know who he is.. one picture:

And yes, it does have a chute. Last dyno'd at 686hp, 584 tq...

Lol. You just got Profiled. And yes, it was illegal for them to pull you over. It was obvious that they pulled you over for what kind of car you drive. It's like pulling over a black guy in an Escalade and lecturing him about selling drugs and if he does it, he will be caught. And then telling him to tell his homies to stop shooting places up and to not sell drugs. He was being Prejudice and Profiled you as an Illegal Street Racer due to the type of car you drive. He may be correct in his judgments, but if you were to file a Formal Complaint against him, he would be reprimanded. I wouldn't suggest doing it, because unlike a driving record where stuff is forgiven after a couple of years, an Officer's Record stays with him for his entire career and the complaint can only be taken away by you or a judge. I suggest politely telling him where the line should be drawn next time that kinda crap happens.

Oh, and I agree with them being able to pull you over to question you. They can do that, but they definitely can't accuse you of having any type of relations with the guys in the lot unless they have just reasoning, like if they actually saw you talking to the guys and then leave the lot.

I agree that it is profiling, but ive seen to many complaints get tossed. And i as in a comment before, his car was not specifically specified, and they easily could have talked to the kids standing out there. Pulling him over was illegal, i may be wrong...

he didnt pull him over for no reason.. he pulled him over because he was in the vicinity AND matched the general description of cars that were causing a problem.. good luck with the complaint.. he DIDNT ticket you.. he DIDNT detain you an unreasonable amount of time.. he DIDNT search your car.. he simply pulled you over, conducted his investigation.. informed you that IF you were participating in activity that was causing a problem.. NOT to do it anymore.. OR if any of your FRIENDS were participating that they should stop as well..

comparing what happened to RANDOMLY pulling over a black guy with NO reason behind it and telling him about drugs is such an off the wall comparison..

he drives a car similar to those that were causing issue...
he was right in the IMMEDIATE area where the problem took place...
in fact earlier his car was actually there..

so you DON'T know that someone didnt describe that car.. you really have no idea.. the person calling the police could have said.. "there are a bunch of cars driving crazy around a parking lot" and the dispatcher could have said "can you describe the cars" and that might have just been the description given..
