Microsoft Certification

I am looking into becoming certified in Windows 7 and I bought the MCTS Exam 70-680 book Configuring Windows 7. The reason I am looking into doing this is I am in charge of creating the images and deploying Windows 7 to my company of around 1,000 people. I am only a help desk person so I am pretty much learning everything as I go. We are using SCCM 2007 R2 which I get to learn along with Windows 7. We also have a Tier 2 position opening up here soon and I would like to be a good candidate for that position.

My questions to you:
-Is anyone here Microsoft certified?
-Should I just stick with the first exam and be content or take the second exam to be a MCITP?
-Any suggestions or tips when studying or learning this stuff?

Do the second exam and become MCITP, if something happens down the line this will help tremendously.

I'm working getting my MCITP in a few other areas. Business Intelligence Developer, Enterprise Administrator, Server Administrator and Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7.

Just study your ass off is the only suggestion I can give.

I'm working on a few certs myself. Study, study, study, and once you're done with all that, go back and study some more.

Would you suggest the Desktop Admin or Desktop Support Tech? Which would be better studying, the actual configuring and hands on stuff or reading the book?

Both. Some stuff you can only learn from doing hands on, and some stuff you can't learn unless you read it because it's such a RARE problem that you probably won't see it in your career, but it's good to know you know how to solve the issue in case it does come up.

I'd buy a book that comes with a lab manual. Some of the classes I've taken use this type of approach and it's great. I'm more of a hands-on person, so I can read the s**t out of something, but I need to physically do it as well in order to truly understand what is going on.

Hopefully you guys have a way to manage the migration from XP to 7 w/o having to go 1 by 1....

yeah but doing one by one and migrating a thousand aren't exactly apples n apples.

It's why I don't migrate one by one, I have several images.

We do. We are using SCCM and can push the image out over the network. Plus it is going out in stages as well so it wont be to bad. You can just import the drivers into in and when the image is applied it will pull the driver it needs so you can image multiple types of PCs at once. Kind of nice if you ask me. Plus we have roaming profiles so I don't have to worry about using USMT and all that user crap.
