Quick Release Question

I understand that if I install a quick release hub and new steering wheel, the SRS light will constantly be on. So my question is, if I want to eventually reinstall my stock steering wheel (if I decide to sell it or something), will the SRS light turn back off once everything is reinstalled?

It will go off if you reset the ecu i beleive. Disconnect the battery or pull the back up fuse to reset.

^What he said. As long as you reset the ecu the light will turn back on.

Is this a Civic question? Because the procedure for clearing the SRS control unit is different than clearing the ECU.

Yes, this question is specifically for my civic. I'm planning on installing a quick release hub and steering wheel for security, but I plan on removing it and replacing it with the stock steering wheel and airbag if I decide to sell the car. So I'm wondering if the SRS light would still be on when I reinstall the stock unit?

Yes, the SRS light will remain on until you clear the code from the SRS control unit. What year Civic? It would help for you to include Civic information along with the 98 Jeep.

Sorry about that, its a 1998 EX, 5 speed. Its originally from Canada though, where it is called the "Si."

I tried updating my garage to have the civic, but it doesn't seem to show up.:what:

Ron: It is ok to just make a jumper with something? In the diagram it says not to and to use the SCS service connector.

I ask because mine came back on after putting the stock wheel back on. Light was off for about a week and I didn't think I had to reset the SRS unit. It came back on today. After inspecting everything and finding out that it is all connected back up, I believe that it needs reset.

Sorry to thread jack. Well, it is the same question per se. OP asked if it would go off if stock wheel was put back on. I am proof that it doesn't.

Yes, a jumper wire works fine. The SCS service connector is the same one that Honda recommends for pulling CEL codes, yet we know that a jumper wire also works just fine.

I thought that might be the case, but I figured, better safe than sorry. Always can't hurt to ask. Thanks!

Soon as I get some daylight tomorrow, I will see what I come up with.

I noticed that you have a 93 Civic. The diagram is specific to 96-00 and won't work for a 93 Civic.

I just got back on here to find out why I couldn't find the plug. I thought that I was just missing something. Makes sense that it is for 96-00.

What would be my cure? Unplug the bulb? =)

SRS light troubleshooting for your 93 Civic requires Test Harness A (buy from Honda) and a digital multimeter. Start by simply checking whether dash fuse 25 is blown and, if good, do the voltage tests in the second diagram. Post your results, and I will post further troubleshooting to pinpoint and fix the problem.

Sounds like a good plan. I will get the Test Harness and start doing some voltage tests. I checked the fuse out and it doesn't look blown. I have to get my multimeter or test light from my shop and check it for certain tomorrow as we all know looks can be deceiving.

I noticed today that my horn isn't working either. It is on the same cable coming in through the column if I remember correctly. That made me believe that the plug at the bottom of the column came undone, but all is good there. I pulled the horn fuse under the hood and it was still intact. Will check that with the multimeter as well, when I get it.

Is fuse 25 the only SRS fuse or is there a back up?

This suggests that the problem may be a bad cable reel/clock spring in the steering wheel. If so, you will get a Mode F error (see diagram) when you do the voltage tests.

Is fuse 25 the only SRS fuse or is there a back up?

Fuse 24 is also an SRS fuse, but if it were blown the engine would neither run nor start.

so this will turn off the srs light?

RonJ

So doing this after I installed an aftemarket hub and wheel turn the SRS off until I clear it out and turn it back on?

Thanks!

You install a jumper wire across the MES connector to clear SRS codes:

If you take the stock steering wheel off, the SRS light will constantly stay on from what I have found. Clearing the code won't do anything. Most just take the bulb out of the cluster.
