I have a t3 t4 57 trim on a poormans type r setup and this thing takes forever to spool up. I got it dynoed and it didnt hit full boost (9.5psi) until 6000 rpm. Is that normal for a 57 trim turbo?

It spools at like 4k but it doesnt get to full boost until 6k and after that it starts to taper down a little towards 8psi

nAH MAN ITS YOUR WASTEGATE NOT CLOSING ALL THE WAY... IS IT EXTERNAL OR INTERNAL? IF INTERNAL ITS NOT CLOSING ALL THE WAY (sorry for cap) that happend to me once and i put washers to make it close tight, then it was great again..

I doubt it. I was running my stock DX exhaust for about a week and I would still get full boost at 4000ish.

OP I think your turbo is bad, how old is it?? And is your wastegate in good shape??

What brand turbo is it? What a/r is the backhousing? Have you checked for pre turbo leaks?

it is a jdm sport turbo with a compressor a/r of .50 and a turbine a/r of 0.63. I've been checking for leaks and have not found one. I think im missing one somewhere because the idle fluctuates as if there were a vacuum leak.

why won't you just ask your tuner i mean he does this stuff for a living so i would think he would know the answers to your questions

what is a JDM sport turbo?

is that some type of fancy brand name for an EBAY turbo?

if so.. you need to reconsider your choice in turbos.

i would try and locate that leak before i go blaming other parts. take some carb and choke cleaner in the spray can and spray all the vac lines and around where the intake meets the head... if there is a leak.. your engine will die on an idle when you hit the leak spot. or.. it will sound much worse

and jay kid is right.... your tuner does this for a living.. he should be able to tell you what is wrong

how large is your DP? if it is a good size.. disconnect it from the rest of your exhaust.

i ran a T3 turbo with a 50 trim on a D17 with a 2.75 inch exhaust... i was at full boost and holding at 4K

and this is a single cam...

either you need to find another tuner... or. you need to find the problem.
