ATF Change

hi i need your help.i will be changing the atf of my honda civic lx 92 for the first time and i will be doing it on the weekend. will it be just a drain refill process? what would be the size of the drain plug? tks.

Has the fluid been changed regularly? If it has never been changed DO NOT change it now.

I think an ATF flush should be avoided, but draining and refilling should be okay. In fact, doing a drain and refill twice or three times with a short drive in between would be even better. Use only Honda or Honda-recommended ATF.

All I can say is that if you brought the car into Honda, and the fluid had never been changed, we would recommend you DONT change it. Right now, Assuming the fluid is original, It has the consistency of muddy water. When you change it, The new fluid is the consistency of Rubbing Alcohol- much thinner. Your gears are running in this muddy water like they have been for years. If you put new fluid in, The fluid is much thinner, increasing clearances and giving you some nice grinding action.Ive seen trannys go out a few hundred miles after we recommended they didnt change the fluid but they took it somewhere else because we wouldnt do it.

Also, Honda doesnt recommend EVER doing a trans flush on these older cars

Sounds like being stuck between a rock and hard place. The classic damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario. The transmission is doomed regardless. If I were in this situation, I guess I would do a few ATF drain and refills and then cross my fingers that the transmission does not fail. This is just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. Also keep in mind that you may be able to pick up a replacement auto transmission for a low price given that many owners do auto to manual swaps and possibly have an auto tranny that they will sell for cheap.

I would suggest the same as RonJ. It would give me better confidence running my car with new ATF. Your gears will experience better situations than having the old ATF. Just make sure to use Honda recommended ATF.....

thanks for the reply guys. i already drain refilled my auto tranny and so far i don't have any problems. maraming salamat din pareng makulit hehehe.....
