today i put some speakers in my gf's 05 civic dx. put some pioneer highs in the doors. she has the oem speakers in the rear and also has the oem cd player. they played fine. nice sound and all. when my girl left she said it sounded great but, mins later she called me back and said her speakers arent working. she made a stop and turned the car off. when she got back in she said everything worked fine for about 10 seconds then silence. she got back awhile later and i checked the radio and it had power. when i started the car the speakers make a low sound. alittle noise for just a split second then nothing. the sound is just a small.....pop sound i guess???? i checked the radio fuse to make sure it was ok and it was. is there a fuse for the speakers? i checked and didnt see one. i can't really think of what else it could be.

How did you attach the speaker wire to the speakers?
Is it possible that the wires wiggled loose while listening to music?
That low sound you are hearing is probably just a loose connection to the speakers. I would take the door panel back off and check the connection to the speakers.

Sounds like maybe one of the speakers could be grounding out did you make sure the wires were properly insulated?

it definitely sounds like a bad wire job a bad connection . my front speakers did that when the terminals got corroded and had to be cleaned . go back over all the connections. when you say highs do you mean tweeters or coaxials ???. also did all the speakers go out or just the front ???

:word: it definitely sounds like a grounding problem. now if it's ALL the speakers, then check the wiring to the head-unit. If it's just some speakers, then check the speakers wiring. But I'm almost positive is a lose grounding wire.

Did the new speakers come with any mounting brackets?? or are you just mounting the new speaker on the door. It could be grounding out (Metal Speaker on Metal door) this could cause grounding issues once the paint wears and it becomes metal on metal, which would explain why it worked for a little bit and stopped. Seen it before at the shop, when people come in and ask why they aren't working.

If thats not it i wouldnt waste anytime tracing wires i would just run a new 16 guage (or 18) wire right to the speakers... saves alot of time and eliminates the factory wiring all together.

Just my .02.

took the door panel off the pass side and i see i mounted the speaker too close to the door frame to where it was touching and it would wiggle and ground out. problem fixed. thanks everyone.
