tweaking an amp possible?

Couple years ago bought a system from a friend and it hits way harder than i think it should (which is never a bad thing) he said the system's been around the block a few times and has been tweaked to hit harder.

It's an mtx thunder 100w amp. yes 100. two zeros. with 2 10" visonik subs. (never heard of the company before i saw em)

just wondering if it's possible for a 100w to hit hard or if it's possible to tweak it sorta like taking a governor off?

if wanted i can get the specific model number of the amp. i'll also try to get a decent sound clip if it's wanted. it'll give a 1200w with 2 10" a run for their money.

there are many things that can make your system more efficient such as enclosure size, wiring, voltage output from the head unit, etc. making an amp produce more power would require some hands on upgrading of the internals and a lot of electronics knowledge. not sure what your question is tho.

100w just isn't gonna get things moving

esp with inefficient subs like visonik.

I agree...get some info off of the amp to see, b/c from my experience, a 100 watt amp can't power a damn thing...and those visonick subs shuldn't be makin that kinda bass, no matter what amp...

You'd be surprised what the old MTX thunder AMPs would do. I had a 100W Alpine amp back in "95" that thing would move my Terminator subs... Later.. I used it to push some 10" W6s

im confused by the post. op says he has a 100w amp that will "give a 1200w with 2 10" a run for their money", but then asks if its possible for a 100w to hit hard and how to tweak it. i dont think a 100w rms amp is going to stand up to a 1200w rms amp. but hey, if its working for you...whatever.

they were good lil amps for sure. I just wouldnt compare it to a 1200 w amp.

Can't really compare stuff out now to stuff from back in the day

subs and amps were way more efficient back in the day..you didn't need a 1000w+ sub setup back in the day to shake s**t up.

ok so visonik's are as crappy as the name sounds then? i just really wanna know if they did do something to it. i mean i figure it's safe since it hasnt blown up in 2 or 3 years. just curious i guess. just joined the forum so i figure i'd ask.

the amp is an mtx road thunder rt251d i'll try to get a sound clip tomorrow. but i dunno how good a camcorder a palm pre has haha.

i just look up the amp, and it looks like it can do 200watts rms at 2ohm...

the only way i know to make it hit hard is to bridge the amp that means crossing the wires so it runs like a one channel instead of two.
