Middle Township police on Wednesday arrested a man who returned to the area after being deported last year before he could be charged with sexually assaulting a minor.

Eduardo Cruz, 34, of Bayshore Road in the Villas section of Lower Township, was wanted last year in the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl, the details of which police would not disclose because the victim is a child.

However, Cruz was deported to Mexico over unrelated circumstances before he could be formally charged, Middle Township police Sgt. Don Nelson said.

"He was deported before he could be investigated," Nelson said.

Police recently received information that Cruz had returned to the area, although Nelson could not specify how the police obtained that knowledge. He was arrested after he was found at a construction site in Lower Township.

Cruz was charged with sexual assault and child endangerment. He also was arrested on a bench warrant out of Lower Township. He was taken to the Cape May County Jail on $125,000 cash bail.

It's our system that is broken man, that's how he's able to get in through the cracks. Just like someone else said, a natural born citizen COULD be committing the same crime, heck, I wouldn't mind deporting them (natural born citizen) either. That's a very bad crime there. Sure you can, make a rule for it. but anyways, that's just my crazy brain thinking out loud.

Over the last few years there's been a lot of Chicago police officers that have been drunk behind the wheel, and eventually have killed innocent people. As guilty as they are, they're off the hook.

I have a feeling that even these people (people that decide to illegally come to this country) know that what they are doing is wrong. I believe what drives them to disobey laws is their lack of discipline, also a mentality of "f**k the law, we can do whatever we want, no one is going to stop us from doing or going where we want, we don't care if there's rules, I'm more powerful then you" Which again, goes back to discipline. Unfortunately a huge percentage of THEE illegal immigrants lack discipline, something that can make one's life very hard, not just for themselves, but also for anyone around them.

i totally agree it is the system thats broke.. and i just wish the rest of the people in this country would come to that realization..

1) secure the border.. using ANY resources you need to.. if we can control ENTIRE regions within countries (think Afghanistan, Iraq, etc..) then I am %100 sure if we WANTED to.. we could control the Mexican border..

2) Punish illegals in ways that actually effect them... work camps? have sentences that involve "community service" in which they are FORCED to WORK and NOT get paid... THEN deport them.. and NEVER allow them to return legally..

3) punish the scum bag american companies that employ these assholes..

if you do ALL of that s**t it would make for a more secure nation.. and dramatically reduce illegal immigration..
