Wow that s**t was well put o.O
Look I've never-ever payed for a song online, Especially back when i would cut school just to download song's from Napster on my Dial-up connection and POS computer. What i can say i have paid for is similar to the above comment's, example:
I LOVE the WU-Tang Clan- I have Legally bought ALL of their albums all because their music feed's my soul, i love it therefore i cop. Only exception i give to Buying music.
200 bucks a month for music? no. i don't think so. i easily have over 10,000 song's on my iTouch, Laptop and Desktop combined (Different ones) Does it suck for the Artist? Yes to an extent.
I also believe i am being a hypocrite because I myself am recording Artist that hopes to get paid nicely enough to make a good living out of it, But with albums not being bought how can i expect that?
Well bottom line is from my experience CD's and track's are to get your name out there, it doesn't matter if your getting paid for them because at the end of the day YOU have to be that business Mastermind in your own right that is going to be thinking outside, inside, across, under the box. To sell out Tour's, Merchandise, get donations and like i said GET YOUR NAME OUT THERE.
If you can do that you will develop fan's (Given your music is good and you have Lyrical savageness like me hehe) that will come see you no matter what and always keep your mind relevant when it comes to making music.
Bottom line is: If you are an artist Money come's second, Passion comes First. I'd rather be working at a amazing bar performing with steady pay AND working as a photographer for other means and be in the spotlight forever, than to be in the Industry with a contract making quick money, then be forgotten just like the other POS "Artist" out there.
