As far as good or bad goes, I think most people get put into units where they don't get a long with anyone or have issues with people in that unit. I hear this the most from the guys that come into my work. I also think some people go in doing a MOS they don't like.

Both my father, a retired Army engineer and my uncle, a retired Marines helicopter pilot liked the service. My dad still wishes he would have stayed in longer.

Along side talking to the members here in now, just starting, or have retired, get into a recruiter office and talk with them. Ask them questions and gather the info they will give you. If they pressure you to sign, get out of there unless you are 100% sure this is what you want to do for 4,6, or 8years(whatever the minimum you want to do or max.). Some will disagree with me here, but after witnessing a kid get denied for lying about somethings in his life, I'd recommend being 100% honest with your recruiter.

I'm currently looking into Security Forces with the USAF and waiting for the AF to reopen processing. While I told my recruiter I was looking at doing 8 years, I'm really debating to do this for my whole life.

Best of luck with whatever branch you go into. And remember, no branch is better than the other, we all have U.S. infront of the branch and all are defending and fighting for our country.

Awesome! I think you should shoot a PM over to Dcrabee? I think that was his name, I think he joined the Marines and would be your best source for the Marines here. Dunno anyone in the Army on here.

I am currently in the Army and I work as a surgical technician. The best advice I can give you is pick a job that you would want to do when you get out. Dont go for the big bonuses like a lot of people do. Big Bonuses at times equal sucky jobs. But if you can hang it there for your enlistment then a 20k bonus or more than may be right for you. DOnt beleive the hype all MOS deploy so if a recruiter tells you wont then they are lying. I am going to be a recruiter in December so I will have more info and stuff by then
