You guys tell me if you think the school board is overreacting with the discipline......

CATSKILL — The Catskill Village Police Department on Thursday released the names of four Catskill High School seniors charged in connection with driving dirt bikes in a school hallway Wednesday morning.

Nathan Huber, Ryan Larsen and Matthew Bulich, all 18, were charged with disorderly conduct for the incident, which the district says was part of a senior prank, village police said.

Police said Christopher Slonina, also 18, rode a bicycle and was ticketed for reckless driving.

All four were given appearance tickets returnable to Catskill Village Court.

The students will also be facing disciplinary action from the school district, which could include not being allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony on June 26, according to Catskill School Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Farrell.

Bulich, who is the second cousin of Catskill Board of Education member Michael Bulich, is a member of the school’s snowboarding team and was named its Most Valuable Player for the 2009-10 season. He made the school’s honor roll for the third quarter.

Slonina, also a member of the snowboarding team, is on the school’s merit roll for the third quarter.

Larsen is a member of the school’s wrestling and track and field teams.

“The district recognizes that the senior prank is an age-old ritual, but unfortunately three students upped the ante,” Farrell said.

Farrell would not speak to the character of the four students on Thursday, only calling their actions “abhorrent behavior.”

Six other students, who Farrell said knew of the plans, will also face disciplinary action.

Pranks of this scale are not new to the school, but this is the first in a decade that has generated talk of disciplinary action and a partial ban from graduation.

Ten years ago, a group of Catskill High School graduating seniors were not allowed to participate with their peers at commencement after they brought a junk car on school grounds at night and deposited it on the front lawn of the high school.

The students were permitted to attend the ceremony, but they were not allowed to sit with their classmates and they could not receive their diplomas until the ceremony concluded.

The junk car being put in front of the school is nothing. I'd hardly call that a prank.

But riding dirt bikes in a school, that's completely different and dangerous. They could've killed someone or themselves. Since the article doesn't go into detail how fast they were going, it's still safe to assume it's not something that'd be "safe". As far as I know, high schools are NOTHING compared to college's and have smaller hallways and lower ceilings.

It's completely retarded the kid on a BICYCLE got a TICKET. That's just absurd.

On the plus side, at least they're being allowed to graduate. When I graduated high school, I couldn't have cared less if I didn't have to sit in a boring ass ceremony just to walk on stage, get my diploma, then sit back down. They didn't even give us our real diploma when we walked up. We picked it up later after the ceremony.

This thread is fail, there is basically no information as to what they exactly did as far as breaking in and what not. There is tons of students whom are threatened to not graduate? It's almost guaranteed if you're going to do a senior prank.

just think guys... this is close to where woodstock was done...

and 2 years ago... 6 people from the local high school here... got into the bus lot... 120 busses... they took the valve cores out of every tire of all the busses.. school was subsequently closed for 2 days afterwards..

all 6 kids were expelled and charged with trespassing and destruction of property.. charges were dropped 3 weeks after graduation...

it cost the school board 6500 to repair all the tires.

they allowed the kids a diploma... but they did not attend graduation

Thats crazy. About 6 years ago, some kids did that to my local school districts buses. They got expelled, yanked their diploma, and they all got at least one year in jail.

My school's mascot was a Spartan, and we had a big sign on the side of our school made of individual letters that said "Home of the Spartans"........well kids at my school decided to remove the "the" and the "p, r, and second s". That morning......we were "Home of Satan"

There are pranks, then there are idiotic actions that some call pranks. This is one of them. Dirtbikes through a school? Just goes to show, grades don't mean s**t when it comes to common sense

Agree 100%

It's kind of like drawing a penis on the forehead of a passed out drunk buddy and dragging the couch he is on out into the street to have him abruptly awaken by a honking car driving by. One is harmless funny and the other is dangerous and reckless.
