amp/Subwoofer cuts out, after Installing HID's

Yesterday night, i installed HID's in my civic. I took it for a drive and the subs worked perfectly at first, but then after a while it just cuts off. but then it turns back on randomly. the next time it cut off i took a look at my amp, the protection light was on and the power light was really dim.
Im going to check my wiring and make sure my Amp is connected properly. But what if the system checks out?
im thinking the HID's are taking alot of power now, and im going to have to buy a capacitor for my amp..
Any thoughts?

A capacitor is a must when you have a sound system. It wouldn't hurt to buy a great battery, either. I just purchased an Odyssey and it's really good. I would recommend it. It's better to be safe than sorry... You don't want your car shutting off next because your system consumes more power than it's getting.

a cap is NOT a must with a system. A cap is a band aid for a problem. check all your power/ground wires for shorts. double check your new hid install. do the big 3 upgrade on your vehicle power / ground wires. dont waste money on a cap. a little more info on the amp would be helpful. this has nothing to do with his battery. caps DO NOT produce more power.

what kind of amp?
guage cable used in audio system?
where is amp grounded?
are you getting a batt lite?

im betting you just have a short somewhere.

+1 for more info on wiring, like the gauges used. And don't spend unnecessary money on a capacitor. And as Manderson said check the grounds, simple mistakes are the most overlooked ;)

yah a cap is just extra storage for voltage. If the power source(the alternator) isnt sufficent a cap will make matters worse. Check the battery connections. Check the load of the subwoofers. Is it running at 1 ohm on a 2 ohm stable amp for instance. this will throw the amp in protection pretty quick. But if nothing has changed on the audio install I would start at the Battery connections and uprading your big 3 never hurts.
