yep, this is the wrx i'm looking at getting. thanks for the compliments. it's got a few hail dings on the roof and the scoop is losing paint, but whatever. thanks for the thumbs ups everyone, i'm hoping i'm making a good decision here.

brian, it is currently untuned... good thing bugeyes can handle these mods without a tune... there's a local subaru guy that does opensource, though, so i'm gonna get him to clean up the map a bit. should cost me $100 or so i think. it's no dyno tune, but it'll really tidy up the powerband.... it should be stage 2ish i think, given the mods on the car. i'm still unsure if i'm gonna go with the exedy stg1 clutch or the south bend clutch dxd stg1... granted all clutches start as exedys, but i like how south bend clutch will match different materials for the disc and pressure plate depending on the application. plus they're local. lots to think about.

personally i think staged power upgrades are kinda silly, but the reason these power stages are present is due to the high cost of dyno time and tuning.

stage 1 is usually some engine management (remap) to give the car more pep

stage 2 is usually a turboback + tune. most people will swap the uppipe too while they're down there

what most ppl refer to as stage 3 is usually a beefier stage 2, but still running the same stock turbo (a tiny 13T for wrxs). by this point most are maxing out the turbo and boost pressure is tapering near redline... most are seeing a top end of 250whp at this point.

stage 4 swaps out the stock turbo, adds all the supporting mods, fuel delivery upgrades, etc.

still, it's just generalizations to give ppl a rough idea of what's been done and where the power/torque output is at... also, different companies have different ideas of what each stage should be, so sometimes it gets a bit confusing when people solely rely on stages to describe their car.
