Well this won't be pretty. I was driving home Saturday night from work and some stupid old guy in a 00 buick la saber decided he wanted to turn on a red right as i was coming. I slammed on the brakes and dropped it to 2nd (i was doing 45ish) which slowed me down a good amount but not enough. i bounced off his front end and slid to the other side of the street. it took the popo 30minutes t get there and then i finally had the car towed to my moms garage where it still sits.

The damage that i have found so far is:

fender
bumper
hood
door
headlight
corner light
wheel
tire has a huge hole in it
upper control arm is twisted almost 90*
upper ball joint is popped
steering knuckle is bent 20*
rack & pinion is leaking
transmission is leaking

but hey. i didnt stall the car when it happen lol

the claims adjuster came and looked at it and said due to the age and the amount of damage done its going to get junked. what pisses me off the most is the old f**ker drove his car home. all it did to his was i ripped off his bumper and busted his grill and headlight. oh and when i say old. the guy was born in 1939. he should be off the road.

anyway his insurance is going to give me the option to buy back the car. so my plan is to take a good hard look and take some measurements and make sure the frame is still straight. it looks fine but you never know. if it is and they give me a reasonable amount then i will buy it back and rebuild it. or just buy another one, or both lol idk yet. we shall see.

The old man may have been at fault, but i wouldn't call him stupid.....My grandfather is 85, and yeah, he scares the s**t out of me, but he has been driving for 70 years, so who am i to take that right away from him....However, i do think that after a certain age, say 70 or so, we should all be required to pass a driving test.....

Anyway. heres the deal. the insurance company is only giving me $1600 for the car due to the miles and age. now origianly they wer only going to give me 75% of that because they said i was speeding. the police report said the speed limit was 30mph and i stated on tape that i was doing 40-45. i then told them they need to send someone out there cause that cop is f**king stupid and the speed limit is 40. i drive that road every day. so they did and they called back. sure enough they said " oh your right. it is 40mph". so now they are going to give me 90% because i should have used cauion entering an intersection in a green light. f**king bull s**t.

anyway here is my conundrum. they will let me buy the car back from them for $200. so. i have a few options.

buy the car back and fix it with the remaining $1200
buy a new ej for $1400
buy the car back for $200 and buy a new car for $1200. then combine the two and part out whats left.

or the one im really flirting with here. i was cleaning some floors for a guy and i noticed he had a red 91 miata in his garage covered in dust. this sparked my interest. ive always loved miatas. i asked him why its there and not being used. he said it had a little damage from where he backed his truck into it and it leaks fuel and had alot of miles. now im thinking to myself. hmmmm. i asked him if he ever thought about selling it and explained what happen to my car. he said he never thought about it but he will. sooo. im going out there next thursday to take it for a test drive. couldnt do it then cause the battery is dead from sitting. as for specs go. its a 91. red with black interior (which is perfect) and a black top. 148k on it (haha not that much at all), 5-speed with a firm peddle. as far as i could see. the only thing that needs to be fixed is the fuel leak (which he has no idea where it is) the battery will probably have to be replaced, needs and alignment (rear wheels is wearing the inside), the top needs to be replaced, and need one hell of a cleaning.

im really leaning towards the miata. or even buying the miata and the civic and drive the miata while i fix the civic..

what do you guys think? and anyone know any tricks to get more money from the insurance company? ive heard you can counter offer but i have no idea how to go about that.

If it's not, then buy it back.

true that. ive got two weeks to make my decision so im going to take some measurements at some point today and see what ive got.

thats kinda what im leaning towards right now. i checked the blue book on the miata and its only $900ish in its current state. i think i can work with that

im still waiting till i close on this house before i can get my bike. cant wait for that either lol. and ive got a second car kinda. i bought one for my ex a while back (when she wasnt the ex lol) and she has been letting me use it. of course right now its down as well. starter went out haha
