AEM V2 Cold Air Question.

Ok so I am looking into getting the very lovely v2 intake system from AEM, but I have pretty much just one question.. Since it sits pretty low to the ground, when it rains does it suck up water also? Could hydro-lock happen? Anyone with any info feel free to chip in, thanks.

well it shouldnt as long as you have that cover on the bottom sitting nice and tight but there is still a better chance of getting water in it, i used to have a cold air intake on my lx used it for about oh i dont know 3-4 months and i never got water in it even when it rained but i dont know how the v2 cold air intakes differ from the regular cold air intakes...

I was/am only concerned about going through deep puddles. But I never had any problem with the CAI, even in heavy rain and highway driving.

I thought that the V2 was the same length as a short ram? This is at least the case for 7th gens, not sure about 6th.

Short rams sit in the engine bay, the cold air sits down pretty close to the front tires.

Let me elaborate. I am well aware of the difference between CAI and SRI. I was stating that for 7th gens, the V2 intake is the same setup as a SRI, just with the difference diameter tubing. If this is the case, then you have absolutely no reason to worry about hydrolocking.

Yeah, on the 7th gens, they are short. They sound mean though... like a freakin elephant blare.

@ThatOne314Dude. I have had my share of hydrolocking issues with cold air intakes with my S2000; even with the splash guards still installed. And about half of my friends have had hydrolocking issues with CAI on their Civics. Try using the AAEM Air Bypass Valve on your intake when it's rainy season. I wouldn't recommend it when it's not raining as it can change the way the V2 uses sound waves to induct air.

I have read that the bypass valve restricts air enough to the point that it defeats the purpose of having an intake.....kind of like a silencer on your exhaust.

Yep. Just switch from a CAI to SRI during rainy days.

Hmmmm...I really would like to have a CAI, but if it is at the cost of my engine, I should probably just go with the SRI. I haven't researched the SRIs', so do you guys know if they have the same performance as the CAI?
