HELP! starting up problem.

whenever i try to start it up it wont start i would have to usually press on the gas a little then it would start. this usually happens whenever i dont drive the car as much but when i drive the car constantly it would always start up when i turn the key without pressing the gas. does anyone know what the problem may be? i recently tried to start the car after one week of not driving it and it happened again. i tried to start it up but it wouldn't until i give it a little gas, i also notice when the car finally starts the steering wheel would vibrate. i just bought this car from some guy and he told me to make sure i dont start the car until the check engine light goes off. can any one tell me whats wrong and what i should do about the steering wheel vibrating? thanks.

The reason the guy told you not to start it until after the cel goes out, is to give the fuel pump time to prime....You might start by changing the fuel filter...As for the vibrating steering wheel, this is normal due to the high rpm's during warm up....

Ok so I tried to start the car again and now it won't start. I give a little gas while turning the key, I kept doing it hopeing it'll start but then it started to make a rattling sound by the engine! Then I started to think the problem might be the battery is dead. I didn't have a jump start so I'll have to wait till tomorrow to find out if that's the problem. I also found out that the exhaust has an oil leak! So about the fuel filter.. How do I change that and what will it do? Stop the engine light from being on?

The CEL comes on for a couple seconds when you turn the key to the ON position while it does a self check.
If it stays on constantly, then you should check it.

Does the engine turn over? Meaning the engine is rotating but will not start.
Or does the engine do nothing when you turn the key?

Also, the exhaust should not have an oil leak. Is oil coming out of the exhaust pipe or is there oil on the exhaust pipe. Oil can be leaked onto the exhaust pipe from the engine.

What would be helpful is a video from a camera phone or something of you trying to start the car and pics of the oil leak.

so it's normal to have the check engine light on when it's in ON position? because mines takes a long time before turning off. like maybe 5 minutes or so.

oil is dripping when i get the car started from where the exhaust is mounted to the pipe. i'll try to get a video of it if i get the car running again.

do i still have to check why the cel is on from that link you posted up deezy?
