Sandwich Adapter

Ok, I'm dropping my b16 beginning of next week to send to inline pro for a rebuild. It's already boosted with an 18g greddy kit. Come to find out, I'm supposed to have a sandwich adapter where the oil line is tapped for the turbo. Can someone explain to me what this sandwich adapter does and is it really that vital??

The only sandwich adapter I can think of is the kind that goes between the block and the oil filter. It's primarily used to send oil to an oil cooler, but I guess it can be used to send oil to and from the turbo. This can be utilized so you don't have to tap in through the oil pan.

he is right it also can be usto for an oil presser gauge and oil temp gauge so you wouldnt have to tapp into the block or head. its alot faster and cleaner. here is a sit you can get them from www.phearable.net there pretty cheap

Like I said earlier, hopefully I will be able to pull the motor next week so I will be able to see how it was done a lil better...I'll make a build thread when that starts...One guy I talked to said he's never seen it done without the adapter lol So we are both interested in getting in there!!!

you dont need to have a sandwich plate adapter. the only benefit of using one is your turbo will received filtered oil instead and you will be able to use other devices that require an oil source at the same time such as an oil pressure gauge. the T section that i assume you were using works just fine.

There is such thing as a oil filter relocation (where you can relocate the oil filter on the firewall), that also has fittings for oil cooler/turbo oil feed/pressure/temp sensors.

Note this guy is running a front mount oil cooler on the return line, found this on Hondatech.

The stock oil pump will be able to keep up the pressure, and you will require extra oil to keep the lines full than factory oil capacity rating.

Question arises...When my motor comes back for the shop (boring honing etc. Full rebuild) am i correct in saying there will/may be metal shavings left over that will come out in the oil?? Which I'm sure they will go over this with me but I am impatient . If so, sounds like this adapter would be pretty important...

Question arises...When my motor comes back for the shop (boring honing etc. Full rebuild) am i correct in saying there will/may be metal shavings left over that will come out in the oil?? Which I'm sure they will go over this with me but I am impatient . If so, sounds like this adapter would be pretty important...

I would think a respectable shop would throw the motor in a tank and clean it off really good after shaving everything out...

They def are a good reputable shop!! I haven't gone too far into details with them, nor do I completely know the process, but they are def top notch!! INLINE PRO!!!

Pick up a magnetic drain plug. So that the shavings will be on the plug on the first oil change, and continue to use it for the life of the motor.
