Hello,

I had a question about the the engine cap that has a small pipe just above the "H" to left on a honda civic ex 1998. I know that you need to plug a hose that connects to a pipe in which that connects to the air tube flow. What happens if their is no hose to act as the middle man? What is the use of the the tube in the air flow to the engine cap?

Thank you

Are you talking about this tube thing?

It takes any gases that pass by the valves during engine operation and feeds it back into the intake track so that it can be put back into the engine for use as intake air.

In California, you can't disconnect it. It has to be on there or you won't pass smog. It won't really hurt the engine, but it won't help the engine to disconnect it. People put breathers on it, but that doesn't do anything either.

Good looking, next week I need to take my car for a smog check and luckily I caught that and with your info it helped clarify it.
Thank you.

A filter won't do anything seeing as the port vents gases, it doesn't intake air.
Learn something new everyday, I never put the dumb filters myself, I always put tube  Thanks for correcting me man.

man i read somewhere that the filter helps to reduce crankcase pressure, same as the small tube, if not better.
also helps with not having engine oil leaks, or help alleviate it or something.
but never saw any apparent differences while putting on the small filters, so took it out.
