Ok here was my thought process, Brian please don't take any offense to my criticism.
S2k:

Pros:
*beats miata in pure power out the gates
*Is a Honda
*Amazing engine VTAK!!!!
*Not considered a girls car, so peeps won't think you gay
*They look amazing

Cons:
*It's a honda so thief magnet, kids will want to jack ish off it
*NA is great, boost gets complicated so has less potential IMO (arguably)
*Jack-knife handling in AP1's
*kids beating the piss out of em w/9k revs, cylinder #4 issues b/c of this and many blown engines with abuse
*I've heard of control arms snapping, not sure how frequent this is
*more expensive

Miata:

Pros:
*overall cheaper for car itself and parts
*Less power but more potential with boost and multiple engine swap options
*better balanced in a slide
*20+ year history community is HUGE and very helpful
*more people race them
*Actually makes a good winter car if so chosen
*Hard tops don't cost $3k
*small things like no need for camber kit and dials on bolts to make race alignments easier
*less popular
*many special editions and rare versions to make them unique
*3 generations to choose from
*simple to work on
*cheaper to insure (in top 5 cars to insure)
*old man respect lol

Cons:
*140 HP
*styling (arguably)
*girls car
*no rollbar stock
*could be up to 20 year old car

To sum it up, OEM to OEM S2k is a faster car easily, but I personally believe the Miata to have equal if not greater potential if you toss coin at it. Also to drive a Miata you need thicker skin, peeps will yell at you from time to time lol but the big thing is the people, the miata community is HUGE, there are so many side vendors making this/that, everyone gives advice, 1/2 of the owners race them and everyone i've met is cool as f**k, the culture wins huge IMO and you are less of a "target" which is huge for me w/my past experience w/Honda.

^^ sums it up for me personally pretty much

geez,

um.. i've always wonder.. what if that Honda would of made a roadster at the same time that Mazda did their Mx5... Would Honda's roadster be what Mazda's roadster has evolved to now?

imo the Miata has the pro of age, i mean, if it was really a bad car i don't think it would of survived for as long it has. It got a head start way before the S2000 was probably even thought of.

yeah S2k's target is obvious and they did a great job.

But I've yet to see such a huge/strong/devoted community to not a brand but one model solely.

Younger people?

That goes back to what i said. what if the tables were turned, if the S2000 would of debuted in late 80's.

No not younger peeps the miata and it's success (best selling sports car of all time)

Things would still be diff if S2k had it's history, IMO people buy the honda b/c of 240hp, you don't buy a miata for it's power it's completely different.

I'm not going to lie, the 240 hp does make me want it more then a Miata. The design of the S2000 is another reason i would pick it over a Miata, it just looks better to me. I think the body styling of the S2000 is 10, Miata a 9. First generation Miata, probably a 6.

Imo, If you put horse power aside (and Miata Na styling), it is a very difficult choice.
