gauge needle movement question

So this might be a dumb question, but when people paint their gauge cluster needles can they get messed up when they move or do they go back to normal when you turn the car on?

If you remove the needle then yes the position can get messed up, but if you keep the needle on the cluster then moving it shouldn't be a problem.
