What does your radio look like? Glare problems? Post pics.

Does anyone else have a problem with their radio having glare issues because of it being tilted upwards a bit? I have tried tilting mine down a little bit but the back of the radio hits a metal bar going behind the dash that prevents it from being angled down anymore. What have y'all done to fix this problem? I can see it just OK from the drivers seat now but it still isnt great. If I lean forward I can see it just fine. But you cant see anything from any of the other seats. And I am tired of passengers always asking the name of a song or what radio station is on because they cant see the screen. IDK maybe it is just my particular stereo that is having glare problems.

Post a picture of what your stereo looks like in your car and maybe we can figure out which ones are having glare problems. I think the next radio I get will have a flip out screen to solve this problem.

Here is what mine looks like from the drivers seat then from the back seat. You can see that you cant see anything on the screen from the back seat.

A head unit like that wasn't designed for the passengers to see it from all angles. Hell, most aren't. They are built with the driver in mind and visibility is going to be best for whom ever is in the driver's seat. Nothing you can do really.

I have a flip out screen and I would bet at certain seats in the vehicle it would be darker and unreadable.

Does your flip out screen cover up the a/c vents? And I've never been in a vehicle that you couldnt read the screen from the passenger side. I think it is only because of the bad angle the radio brackets are set at.

The screen doesn't cover the vents but it does cover the ac/heat controls. Mine is a 5th gen so I don't know how yours would be affected.

I checked and I can in fact see the screen from all seats in the car, but from the back I can't read what it says. Unless I adjust the screen angle it is also a bit dark in the rear seats.

Upon thinking about it more (and looking at your pics), I think your problem has more to do with the head unit display than anything else. It looks to be of a rounder design and is also very shiny. Those both would tend to put a LOT of glare on it and cause it to not be visible in any position if there is a lot of light hitting it, which in a car there is. My screen has a matte kind of finish to it and even then if it is a sunny day, it is harder to see.

Yes the screen does have a shine to it. So that is just making the problem worse. I might just try and relocate the headunit into the bottom slot where the little pocket is, that way I can get the unit to angle down more. I think I saw on here a while back where someone found a dash kit that would let you do that. That might just be the only solution for the 7th gen.

I don't know why u think a flip out unit would help.

This important item nobody talk about until they spent the $ and installed the unit. I mean if ur going to show off your toy but nobody else can see it, what's the point right?

So next time u folks looking for a head, perhaps it would be important to ask, like for big screen TVs, what's the contrast ratio? what's the field of view? does screen have anti-reflection coating? and don't even try this with a $150 unit.

I guess that I am different because I put stuff on and in my car for me. I didn't buy my head unit to "show off", I bought it because I wanted a flip out, dvd player, and a way to use on of my PS3s while waiting for customers to show up to job sites.

I think the glare on a flip out will be greatly reduced unless the screen has a smooth finish. If you've noticed most LCD screens have a matte finish to them to specifically reduce glare. I have glare issues with the head unit in my jeep and it is sitting at pretty much 90 degrees.

A flip out screen would help because most are adjustable where you can adjust it to a angle that works for the car. In this case the screen would have to tilt forward a bit and that would take care of the glare problem. And its not that I am trying to show off a toy, its just that I would like for the other passengers in the car to be able to see the screen as well

i have a flip out and i just angle it down but it also covers the vents on the top i just aim them up and away from the back when the heat is on so it doesn't potentially over heat the screen or just set it to windshield and feet setting . METRA makes a double din kit so you can easily put it on the bottom shelf.

a flip up screen would help, simply because you control the angle. no significant glare for me, and i never change the angle. the screen can be seen everywhere in the car.

mine covers up the vents. i don't open it if i have heat going through them - which i never do - or if it's 800 degrees and need super A/C.

though i'll say that the only normal HU i've had was a kenwood, but the display was flat. it didn't have the same visibility or glare problems you say you're having.
