Honestly, you need to be REALLY good with work to be successful with this, and how the economy is.....I dont know if it would be plausible right now. Location? Obviously a highly populated area. California would probably be your best bet. Advertisement? All over the place. Anywhere thats free at first, then start with the cheapest forms. Reputable? Do work for some people to get your name out, then tell them "Hey look Im starting a shop, come by if you need something done and I will give you 10% off the job, or 5% of the jobs cost if you refer someone." Gotta keep your mind open, and be competitive. And if you open up a Civic's only shop, unless you work is REALLYYYYYYYYY good, it probably wont last.

yah you will need a more broad spectrum of cars, if you have a honda, honda only shop, it will be closed in 4 weeks. iv always wanted to own a performance shop. but here in alabama if you dont work on camaros, mustangs, and big f**king trucks your f**ked. and i dont like working on domestic stuff, i like to work on hondas, and toyotas, and nissans. so thats why i never opened one cause the demand here is really weak.

Start working for/with a reputable shop first to get the feel of it,

Try working at a shop then instead of opening your own.

Same thing happened to me man. I've wanted to open my own shop since I could remember....I think the only way I would do it is if I had a partner in the business or some serious financial backings. But as for advise right now...put out ads in the newspaper, craigslist...start SMALL.
