Just bought an Civic SI cluster for my 99 civic. I bought it off someone on here (wont mention names) and was told everything worked fine. So I went along with the sale and got it shipped and all. Excited after work I put it in to realize the rpm needle and redline wasn't lighting up what so ever. Kinda bummed about it all but I relized my cluster i just took out had the same bulbs! WIN! Looked on the cluster to figure out which bulb it could have been. Changed the bulb I thought it would be and nothing. Noticed the one bulb housing had the one wire come out of it and run to the top to another bulb housing to give it that bright above light if you know what im talking about. That wire looked like it was cut then re taped. So i figured faulty wiring? Took off the bulb housing and the wire that's connected to both bulb housing and put on the one from my DX cluster. Power is running through the wire fine but nothing it wont light up my RPM needle or the redline. Anyone have any ideas? Ive tried 3 bulbs that have all worked before and nothing. PLEASE HELP! I got the cluster to have a tachometer and at night I cant see the needle or see past 4,000 RPM! HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP:( if needed ill post pictures when I get the chance.

seems like you SHOULD mention the member to sent it to you.

sounds to me there's no power getting to where the bulb is located- which seems like the "faulty wire" you speak of is the culprit.

I did. Said everything worked fine when he shipped it. There obviously was a problem because the wire from both bulb housing looked like it was cut then retaped like I said. Any other inputs? Ill post pictures of the idea in a couple min.

file a paypal claim, get your money back and send him back the cluster.

*****THIS IS NOT MY SI CLUSTER THIS IS MY DX CLUSTER. THIS IS A DEMONSTRATION OF WHAT IM CONCERNED ABOUT ON MY SI CLUSTER************

I'm not 100% sure that this bulb is my RPM one. This is why I need help. This is my .2 cents if anyone can help.

This is the wire that came on my Si cluster. I swapped the si one with my dx one. The dx one is on my si cluster which is in my car right now. Just showing the wire it came with and what it looked like.

On my Si where the wire plugs into above that light doesnt power up, but there is a bulb on the other end of the strip that does work. When I unplugg the bulb above that you see on my si cluster the far end bulb shuts off. Ive changed the bulbs numerous times with working ones. STUMPPEDD. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Here is my opinion. The cluster should have been fine in the first place. People should not have to deal with this kinda madness. You shouldn't have to wast any of your own time fixing something that shouldn't need fixing. Tell the person that you would like a refund and you will not pay for return shipping. That person should be banned from this site.

I'm not trying to start anything. YEAH, I'm bummed that its not what I expected. I wanted to have a nice cluster to put in without any problems. And I have problems. I know its nothing to do with my car cause my DX cluster works fine. I was told he took it right out and shipped it. Now that I think of it, I just realized he sent me a picture of it while it was still in his car. And I realized he had the carbon fiber faceplate on it when it was in his car. Mine did not come with a faceplate. I also found a tiny broken piece of plastic also in the shipping box and couldn't think of where it came from. Looked like a tab from something. The plastic also felt loose and when you hold the cluster it feels real week. I didn't really care cause it was gonna sit in my car anyway and be fine but now that I'm having problems something must have happened when he changed the faceplate back or something. Here is what the cluster was advertised as but It doesn't have the faceplate anymore. IF I CAN FIX THIS THATS FINE. I JUST WANT A WORKING Si CLUSTER.

Leave any thoughts about what it could be....

How long ago did you scoop this? Unless my eyes are botched, it looks like there are 3k more miles on it?

I'm gonna say that's an old pic an the guy drove it some, changed faceplates, probably ripped out the cluster an just messed something up. Put it back an drove it 3k miles and sold it.

The hole/bulb in the first picture illuminates half of the speedometer and half of the rpm gauge. There should be another bulb further to the right (when looking at the back) that also illuminates the RPM gauge.

The two wires that travel above the cluster illuminate the needles on front of the cluster (rpm needle, speedo, gas, and temp)

If one of the bulbs that illuminate the needles doesn't work (even after you replace the bulb) I would try replacing the bulb/socket that you pointed out above with the one on your DX cluster. They are the same size. So you'll basically you'll be replacing 2 sockets/bulbs, the larger one on the back with the two wires coming out of it, and the smaller socket on the front which illuminates the needles and has the same two wires connecting to it. Both sockets are connected together with those two wires, so don't try to disconnect the wires.

Let me know if you're confused and I'll post pics.

Ive swapped the wires that had two different types of bulb sockets on each end. The one from my dx works fine ON MY DX, on my si it has the blown rpm gauge from about 6000 down past redline. The needle is also blown. When you look at the picture below the only reason that the rpm gauge is lit up more is because my check engine light in sending light to 6,7k. when key isnt in the ignition and i turn the lights on its much less light from 4,5k and then goes black after 5k with no needle lit.

There is no bulb to the right after that big brown. It has the bigger one with the brown socket and all the little gray ones for check engine, turn signals, and such. The back of that picture is the exact same cluster as the Si. No difference.

Ive changed the wires and everything. Sockets, Bulbs, Wires, anything I could have done I tried.

You need to make a paypal claim dude. He ripped you off clearly.

You'd win the claim simply because the item is not as advertised! (no cf bezel)

don't let this dude pull one over on you, I'm willing to bet he KNOWS it's broken!

It took a lot of BS to fix it but its SEMI fixed. I swapped that power strip from the top to get the top bulbs to work to shine down on the needles. The RPM needle is lit up a little better but still not that great. I changed out all the bulbs with different ones. The wire that came with the Si Cluster from both bulbs was shot. It wouldn't work what so ever. I had to swap the one on my DX to my Si. This seemed to do the trick but the swap seemed to light up the rpm a little more and lose a little lighting to the MPH. Its not a huge problem but i guess you get what you pay for. I went 20$ cheaper and it got me three days of trying to fix it. Bummed it wasn't carbon fibered either. Overall the cluster I guess was okay. I thought spending 175$ for a new part would be enjoyable but in the end it was a nightmare. Should have went with my suspension. Thank for everyone who helped out.
