NEW HARTFORD —

A woman accused of shoplifting at Walmart swung a baby carrier with a 3-week-old infant in it at loss prevention officers when they tried to apprehend her, New Hartford police said.

Billie L. Goode, 28, along with Tayonda Durham, 25, and Harlyn D. McBean, 29, all of Syracuse, first tried to leave the Commercial Drive store Wednesday with more than $1,100 in merchandise, police said.

When loss prevention officers tried to detain the suspects, Goode repeatedly swung a baby-carrier — with her daughter still in it — at an officer, police said.

Durham then used pepper spray against the officer and also sprayed bystanders, police said.

The three suspects were able to escape in McBean’s vehicle, but loss prevention officers were able to get the license plate and passed it along to police.

State troopers on the Thruway saw the vehicle near Syracuse and subsequently detained all three suspects until New Hartford police were able take them into custody, police said.

Police then also discovered other bags containing stolen merchandise from Victoria’s Secret, H&M and Gap stores in Sangertown Square, police said. That merchandise was valued at over $1,000.

One Walmart loss prevention officer was transported by Edward’s Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment due to an allergic reaction to the pepper spray, police said.

The three women were charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies, and criminal possession of an anti-security item, a misdemeanor, police said.

In addition, Durham was charged with second-degree unlawfully possessing or selling noxious material and second-degree criminal contempt, police said.

Goode also was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

All three suspects were sent to Oneida County jail on bail ranging from $800 to $1,500, and a felony hearing is scheduled for next week in Town of New Hartford Court.

The infant was released to the custody of relatives in the Syracuse area, police said.

I just.....I dont know.

What makes me sick.....cliffs:

They steal $1000 worth of merchandise. Spray someone with pepper spray who then must go to a hospital. Assault a police officer AND endanger the life of a 3 week old baby.....and their bail is $800-$1500???? What the f**k is that s**t?!?!

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. I was reading all the charges and I was like, "f**k, the bail oughta be good". Then $800-$1500? s**t, if they've stolen like that in the past, 1 trip would pay for that bail.

The kind of s**t that people do these days is scary... And to think, they have a f**king kid. That's even more scary. I can't imagine how that child is going to be raised and what footsteps she'll follow.

The worst part is that bail normally works that you only have to pay 10% of it, and if you dont show up then you owe the total amount. So for stealing $1000 worth of merchandise, assaulting a civilian with pepper spray, assaulting an officer with a stroller that has a 3 week old infant in it.....they have to pay $80-$150 to get out of jail
