Which block is better?

Hi guys and girls. I'm pretty new to the whole "Honda scene". I have a 1999 Honda Civic hatch.

I'm planning on boosting my engine. I have a lot of parts already. I have a T4 Gerrett turbo, eagle rods, SRP low compression pistons, and other stuff that doesn't apply to my question.

My question is what block is better for my build? I'm looking to get the best bang for my buck.

I have a JDM B16A head with stock internals and GSR cams in at the moment. That is going on 1 of 2 blocks. I have a B18C1 block and a B18B1 block. What would be better for boost? I'm going to be running maybe slightly lower then 9:1 compression and looking to get around 400hp.

I'm working on getting my account all setup at the moment so bare with my weak looking acount.

Thanks,
Kane

If you have the knowledge of putting a motor together correctly then go with the b18b block. How did you decide on a t4 turbo? It'll hurt your bottom end

I would call myself "knowledged" when it comes to working on engines. I got the T4 turbo for a good price. I'm going to rebuild the turbo so it lasts. I'm really going for quality, not quantity on this car.

how did you come up with that idea?

ya, the only thing that would be stock in my bottom end would be the crank and oil pickup. I have forged rods and pistons, and ACL bearings.

so why are you saying going with the B18C1 block rather then the B18B1 block? What are the advantages of using a B18C1 block?

so B18C1 would be better for a boosted B18 block with B16A head because the B18C1 already has VTEC so I wouldn't have to do any modifying to get VTEC like I would on the B18B1? Is that what you meant? I think so. Thanks though.

but I would have to install some LS/VTEC kit to get the VTEC to work properly right? It's not a direct bolt on.

This is what I heard

Correct. Golden Eagle makes a great ls/vtec kit. its also a great motor for boost but so is the c1 block. what it boils down to is which block is in better condition? both will net you decent hp numbers as long as it is built corretly

you dont need a straight t4 for 400whp a t3/t04e 57 trim would be a good choice to run. the b18c1 block is the better choice. it features a girdle for high rpm stability. if you only had a b18b block thats fine but the b18c1 is the better choice. also like someone mentioned earlier using the LS crank in that block is the best combination since it increases the displacement. dont bother with the block guard.
