New to the scene, requesting advice/tips

Okay, so this weekend im going to a look at a '95 Civic Sedan that one of my mom's co-workers currently owns, car has around 100K miles, new tires, mechanically sound other than timing belt (which she is getting fixed before i buy it) and she only wants 1,200. She is the second owner of the vehicle. My mom is telling me there's some rust but interior is mint and my mom will get it painted for me.

Now, all im asking is once i get a job and have some cash saved up, what would be the most suitable initial modifications i should make? i was thinking about lowering it and getting some rims but i havnt even seen the car yet, just going by descriptions from my mom, but its definitely a step up from the '94 Ford Explorer im currently driving

If you decide to put wheels and springs on it, don't get some nasty19'' rims or anything like that. 15'' or 16'' will look tasteful and not tear up your suspension.

Research first before you buy. Check out other cars on various forums to get familiar with what you might like on your car.

the exploder, really? lol dude just work on a good suspension set up, and some minor mods (intake, exhaust ect.)

its automatic, im not looking to make it super fast or anything like that, i just want to make it look real clean and sound a little nicer. possibly do a m/t conversion during the summer or if i get another car at some point just as a project, i dont know much about cars but i'd love to learn, and also my dad used to be a mechanic so he can help me with a lot of stuff.

well, it has exhaust problems (shoots out black smoke), starts up like s**t, idling it sounds like a boat / the engine is about to shut down, the locks dont work, my sister destroyed the body (it was driven by my brother and my sister as there first cars) and has around 150,000 miles

shooting out soot isnt an exhaust problem, its an 02 problem because its dumping too much fuel. Stick with the explorer, i wish i still had mine.

Not necessarily. Sensor issues alone could be MAF/MAP, ECT, TPS sensors too. But yes, o2 sensor is much more common than any of those, especially if the car has been seafoamed before.

OP, If car is auto and you're willing to do auto/manual conversion.. do it up! My car was auto at first and a friend helped convert my car to 5-speed. Honestly the best decision I've ever made on the car (right now even better than turbo since it's not running right haha).

Post up a pic or two of the car you may be getting. How many miles on it?

Not necessarily. Sensor issues alone could be MAF/MAP, ECT, TPS sensors too. But yes, o2 sensor is much more common than any of those, especially if the car has been seafoamed before.

around 100,000 miles and the current owner is getting a new timing belt, im going to look at the car sunday with my mom so ill post pics of it then, first thing im doing is getting the rust removed from the fenders and getting them re-painted, its a dark green (forest green?)

well, the interior is also ripped to s**t driver and passenger seat along with bench in the back are ripped, the locks dont work, and the stereo is broken along with the left side speakers blown. my parents dont want me dumping money into the explorer, so they're going to sell it for whatever they can get, and pick this up for me since my sister ruined it b/c the car was around perfect when she got it, but shes an a*****e and got into 2 fender benders, popped a tire, and let people do sharpie graffiti on the passenger side vanity mirror.

Did you have any problems after you converted your car to stick? Cuz I was thinking about that but I heard alot of the times the conversion just causes a big problem with your car and then you wish you wouldnt have done that.

if its done properly (which isnt difficult) theres no problems. my 94 coupe started life as an automatic D16, and ive converted it to a rebuilt and stroked jdm h23.5 vtec with a stick.

No problems with it at all. Only issue I had was that the guy I bought the transmission from (on this website too).. sold me a s**t tranny. Synchros an TO bearing were GONE. Ended up getting a new transmission, no problems at all.
