Aftermarket Keyless Entry Kit

Kind of lame reason to buy one, but I'm kinda tired of thing to find the key hole at night. Dorm parking lot doesn't supply alot of light (very safe place for cars to be, I know)

Anyway, I'm thinking about a kit from ebay. Has anyone installed a keyless entry kit before? anything to look out for? Difficulty level? I've taken off the side panel before, so I shouldn't have a problem there. I don't think my 98 ex coupe had factory keyless before. Even if it did, I put in a new car deck.

Any info appreciated. Thanks~

id say just go a pick up an alarm and wire up the power locks to it. preferably a 2-way paging system.

just realized my horrible sentence structure, thinking two things at once, sorry lol

ive never looked into an alarm kit. what comes with it? is the wiring difficult? i guess that's the only thing i'm worried about - wiring. i don't want to screw up and kill my central locking.

The keyless entry would b a lot easier 2 install, only 4 wires if you do a basic install.
If u want to add lights, horn honk wont b 2 hard, If u go with just basic lock and unlock all u need... 12volts, ground, lock and unlock that's all
ru in alabama?

98 civic

12 Volts (+) white (40A) ignition harness

Ignition (+) black/yellow ignition harness

Power Lock (-) green/white driver kick, blue plug
Power Unlock (-) green/orange driver kick, blue plug

Great, cuz I ordered a keyless entry kit. And thanks for the info, it'll come in handy when the kit arrives!
Yes I'm in Birmingham. I'm assuming you're somewhere out here too?

Just curious which keyless entry kit did you buy?
I bought it off ebay, and it looked legit. It comes with one of those flip key fobs, figured that might come in handy, so i don't have to have an extra fob hanging from my key ring. it seemed decent. $50 something shipped. Should be coming in tomorrow.

Why don't you just use the OEM keyless entry...it'll be a lot cheaper and not to mention, practically no wiring.

Yeah that would've been great, except I swapped out my car deck a while ago, and from what I read on this site, I need the factory radio for keyless.

You can get another one, along with a Y-Harness and keep the factory radio tucked inside the dash. That's how I have mine and no one knows that I still have it in there.

Didn't think about it, would've been nice to get my dome light back too lol. Oh well...

So the kit came in today. The harness includes (from left to right):
Grn/Bwn/Bwn/Pnk/Red/ Red+Blk/Blk/Ylw/Wht+Blk/Org+Blk/Ylw/Wht/Org

Sorry tiko, now that i got the kit, its become more confusing. i know red goes to constant positive source, and black is grounded

It says the Brown are to the lights. white is the closing signal, yellow to positive 12V, White/Black to opening signal, and Yellow/black to positive 12V. Where do I connect each of these? I haven't had time to take off the side door panel yet today to see the wires inside, planning to do it this weekend

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and figured this would be as good of a place as any to ask for info. I just bought a 2011 Civic without factory power locks. I am already sick of using the key to open the car everyday so I'm inquiring as to the best/most cost efficient aftermarket powerlocks I can install.
