Another computer thread... Yay!!

I was curious if it's safe to turn up my video card fan speed. I have an ATI Radeon HD 4850. My computer generally runs on the hot side and even sometimes starts beeping at me when it really starts to get hot when I'm doing s**t. So I downloaded RivaTuner and went in and put my fan speed to 84% fixed.

Is it safe to run it like that constantly? I use my computer a lot. It's on for 6-7 hours straight during week days between my coming home from work and going to bed. On the weekends, it's on for even longer. If I knew how to, I would turn up my other fans but I don't know where to go for that. I don't know s**t about BIOS and how to read it all. SpeedFan won't let me adjust fan speeds.

It's safe, I run mine at 100%.

Just get upgraded fans, as the ones you have now probably aren't adjustable. A good chassis fan runs ~$10-15. I run Scythe Slipstreams: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185060&cm_re=scythe_fan-_-35-185-060-_-Product

Excellent fans, excellent air movement.

How old is the computer?

Thanks. I don't want to run it at 100%. It's loud as is at 84%.

The computer is custom built and probably 1.5 years old.

It is safe. But you could upgrade the fan, or you can clean up the card and take all the dust out which acts as insulation.

Do not upgrade the fan, it's good enough.
