<<<D16y8 Low Comp. Turbo Build>>>

About a year ago I bult my first engine ever. It was a great learning experience I enjoyed. I built it high compression y8 vs. a turbo y8 mainly due to cost and lack of mechanical experience....

Perhaps due to skimpin on the most important part (tunning) I broke a CP piston and the car started smoking. I drove it that way for about a month and a half then decided this would be my opportunity to build my first turbo build (and hopefully never go back N/a). My goal is 200-250whp, I'll be happy w/ that as long as my motor's NOT maxxed out.

This is what I have to start with:
-P28/Hondata S100
-y8 Cylinder Head (stock)
-y8 block: bored/honed/decked/blockguard
-y8 crankshaft
-Eagle H-beam rods

This is what I already bought:
-ALL new seals from Honda
-Honda Timing Belt
-ACL Race Rod Bearings, ACL Duraglide Main Bearings
-Nippon Low Comp. Pistons (75.5mm)
-Skunk2 Cam gear

I already bought the nippon ones so those will be for now at least.

Ready to go in

Ready to assemble. Bored, honed, decked, and cleaned really good

Some progress made over Sunday

What you guys think about this manifold?

I've also been thinking about getting a cam. Any recommendations? I've been looking at a Zex and a Crower cam but both brands offer diffrent specs and I have no idea which to choose. I'm thinking of the ones that say 'stage 1' cause my car is a dd and i dont want a bad idle in traffic.. lmk

Some more progress...

Any suggestions on a turbo cam?? I already decided I'm gonna go with the Pfab SS manifold over the SPA cast mani.

You should shim your oil pump. A stock internal d16 can make 250 whp so you could push over 400whp with that motor. Bisi 2.4 cam is the best.

Eg6 my goal on boost is really only 250whp. I'll read on about the shim on the pump...

Well, I was finally able to drop the engine in but haven't connected anything. I'll get that done tomorrow. Meanwhile I have a question: I have 2 crank position sensor, the one that came off my motor (which I had to cut at the plug cause it didn't come off but I can rewire it) and another which i THINK came off a b16a2. they both look exactly the same. I went to hondapartsdeals.com and the pictures for both the B and the D are different, the even have different part# but the ones I have look identical.... Wat you guys say, are they different? Should I use the uncut one or the original one?

if you going to run a obd1 ecu (which i assume your going to), you dont need the crank position sensor

oh, and i do want to say that based on the pictures, everything looks too clean. You did use assembly lube right?

Yeah I use assembly lube, I just don't make a mess with it plus I hand crank the engine many times prior to turning it on, which btw will happen tomorrow morning, yeahhhhh

I reccommend a stage 1 zex cam, and of course a cam gear (AEM). And honestly, with that build, u can handle 300 horses safely...

and i second the idea of shimming the oil pump.. The d16y8 oil pumps r pretty shitty.. and since turbo mainly relies on oil to stay cool u shud consider it..
