I'm new to Honda, I'm new to car maintenance. I bought my car considering it would be a project; hopefully cheap to learn on. My only experience working with cars is changing the oil, air filter, tires, and very minor stuff. My plans are to get this car moving nice and smooth. I would like to do all the maintenance myself and learn some skills. Hopefully, I can get a little help on here
In the next week I will be installing a whole new front disk brake system. I will be buying and replacing:
-Brake Calipers
-Brake Rotors
-Brake Pads
( i know i need to clamp down the brake hose to the caliper before disconnecting them so i dont lose any fluid, but beyond unscrewing and screwing them back in. i really dont know what I am doing. Hints are appreciated)
My car does not have a tachometer, and I am new to driving a manual. In the next month I would like to see if its possible to install a Tacometer on a '83 honda civic. I would feel more comfortable once I know how many tacos per minute I am running at before shifting.
I will need to install a new muffler in the next month. Mine has a few holes, and I just don't feel comfortable about it.
There is a knocking sound in the engine when I start out in low gears, once the engine warms up it kinda goes away but not in the first few gears. I'm not sure what it is, but hopefully my balls grow big enough to take on the job after the first few jobs.
I want to replace the door locks. The driver side door doesn't even lock and is missing the door panel. Also, the trunk latch is busted. Did I mention I am poor and got this for free?
My goal is to make this a dependable and reliable car to get to and from work without worry.
I know nobody really cares, but I was going to post pictures and follow up on here so I can get the most help possible!
glad to be part of the civic club!
