so here's a fun update for everyone!

after my 360 gave me the RROD, i found a guy on craiglist that advertised repairs for $40. i dropped it off to him and 2 days later i pick it back up and it's working wonderfully. i probably put 100-120 more hours of gaming on it until the other day it froze mid-game on MW2, and i heard an audible chirp THROUGH THE HEADPHONES :???:. so i figure its probably something on the disc, pulled it out, cleaned it up, put it back in. played for about 5 more minutes and then it does it again; freezes in the middle of a game and heard the same chirp through the headphones loud and clear. I took the disc out and restarted the console, which froze about 10 seconds after booting up. So that was a few days ago. Tonight i turned it on to see how it's doing and of course there was an update to be downloaded. it got 9/10 through the download and stopped frozen. it wouldnt respond at all for almost 10 minutes so i had to turn it off. when i turned it back on, instant RROD. no error codes, no nothing, just red ring...

so should i get it repaired again? i have the money for a new one, and hate to keep pissing money into this one, so would that be a wiser investment? are the new slims having the same problems??

thanks in advance for your input

I have no experience, but I've heard the new ones have had a lot of their problems fixed. I have yet to hear of one breaking

:roll: PS3 has the yellow light of death. Ive seen many people with it.

To the O.P. save your money and get the slim. I have one. Its smaller. The vents are larger. The cooling fan is larger and quieter. built in wireless and a 250gig hd! DO it!!!!

there are various ps3 models that were made. i have the last one before they went to the slims. and it works great i havent seen the yellow light ive had it for over 2 yrs. the yellow light is only an issue on the earlier issued models and happens way less often then the red ring of death

well my 360 lasted 3 years before it died the first time. plus what to do with my 10 xbox games and accessories? if i went to PS3 i'd be starting from scratch in all my games.. plus no more forza. I <3 FORZA

i think he had to reapply thermal cement to the cpu. he showed me the stuff and said it was hella expensive. it was overheating probs that killed it the first time, not hard drive errors. i think that's what happened again despite me keeping an exterior fan pointed across the cooling vents while its powered on. pretty much all the same symptoms except i never got that error screen like in my original thread post. it would just freeze midgame and beep

Your disc sounds like it died like one of my xboxs did. you can get an arcade and just swap you hard drive in or see if someone can fix it. only problem if you buy a new slim xbox or any box with a different hard drive you will lose your cars on forza. i bought an elite so i could have more HD space and when i recovered my Gamertag i still had my gamerpoints from forza but non of my career progress or cars.

U didn't read through my post, it's not the hard drive. Actually, when I dropped the console off to the craigslist guy I didn't even give him the harddrive with it in fear he would accidentally erase it or swap it with another. When I got the console back I reattached the drive.

So I ordered a 360s from amazon along with a transfer cable. I found a good deal on a holiday package; BNIB 360s 250gb + Alan Wake + Forza 3 for $310 shipped

I think I'm still going to try to repair the 360 and maybe I can sell it..

I think you made the best choice. . Once a 360 starts to red ring from heat the best choice is to get rid of it and move forward with the new model. BTW Thermal past is not expensive. It's actually pretty damn cheap.

I did but i didnt write quite a few words by accident haha. I meant to say it sounds like your DISC TRAY unit is broken like mine was a long time ago. When said someone can fix it, i meant the Disc tray problem not the HD.

I didnt know they made a cable to swap over data for the hard drives.
