hey everyone i got a 99 ex
so i want to replace my bulbs on the cluster with another color
ive seen a lot of different threads about this but people always say different ones
Welcome to the wonderful world of conflicting reports, the problem is that many different types work. Think of it this way, all the led’s you see are wired for 12v dc, so as long as they get power they will light up. So people buy different types, and push them in hard, or mod them somehow, and as long as the metal connects, it will light up, then they go to the boards and say THIS ONE WORKS!!!! And then someone else does it and so on and so on. Thus you have all the confusion. I have a 98 ex, so I assume that they are pretty similar. I just ordered a bunch of different ones, and when I got them I tried them all out, and they all worked, even though they were different, like 194 and 74, they all work, Its just a matter of how well they sit in the connector. This is what I used.
Its from autoluminaiton.com, and you have to ordered the led and the base separately, they are 2 different items on that sight, but thats the one that works the best, for most of the bulbs. On mine I have one bulb that is huge!!! 1/2 in across. That I also got from autolumination. That one had a pigtail to two bulbs above it, so I lost the light from those, but Im not sure exactly how the 99 dash is configured, a pic would help haha. Anyways this is the big one.
So its not really the led that matters, as long as they get power they will work, its the base thats the real thing, get a base that matches what the stock bulbs had as close as possible and you will have good results, sort of. Sometimes you get “hot spots” cuz leds, while they have much better color and brightness, are very directional, so make sure to get one with a large angle of view, preferably around 180 or so, they even make 360 leds now. A while ago I stumbled upon a diy for putting in a strip led bar so you wouldn't have any hot spots, I thought about doing that, but mine works just fine. Anyways hope that helps.
anyone have a part number for the ones they bought becuase i just ordered some and feel that im gonna get f***ed because of wrong angels or some mumbo jumbo techey bs i didnt understand
the gauge cluster with the take takes 4 #74 bulbs and 1 #194 bulbs, the gauge cluster without the take might take different amount of bulbs but no more then 4 and it only takes 194 and 74 size
if you do a little searching there are plenty of write ups on bulb replacements and led upgrades im sure you can get the amount of bulbs for the none tach cluster
