Idk for sure but id say the fact that the subs are forcing alot of air, and if the trunk lids closed the air is basically being forced into a small area basically putting pressure on the subs in the opposite direction. Which would most likely lessen the "Loudness" your looking for. Hope this helps :what:

o it helps lol,, since i just have a single 15, but soon to take it out and get another 15 to hopefully fit in my trunk so i can get that loudness back, its just weird how the sub isnt even in the truck but yet air is still going back there lol

im confused by your question. you mean louder inside or outside the car? if your trunk is closed it will be "louder" inside the car since the air is forced to stay in. i hope i read your question correctly.

Put your back seats down and it will be louder that way with the trunk closed? If the back seats are up you're hearing the sound coming from outside the car rather than inside...

Don't drive with the back seats down. Exhaust fumes will get in the cabin.

False.

What about hatchbacks and wagons? If you have exhaust coming in through the trunk a back seat isn't going to stop the fumes.

seriously? explain hatchbacks to me then
That's what I've read hundreds of times before. Because I can smell the exhaust fumes if I pull my back seats down. And they're hella annoying with the seats down while driving, because of the hole in the bottom of the trunk in the spare tire compartment. I've never owned a hatchback, but I assume they have something to protect against it.

Magic Shields. All hatchbacks come stock with magic shields.

smaller box isnt helping, chances are yours was to small before. my 12 inch was recommended for 3 cubic feet, so yours is atleast that

what 15 do you have and is it ported?

What sub are you using, and is it ported or sealed, and what is the cubic feet of your box? Some picks of your equipment would be good.

Also, what amp are you using? It sounds like you might be under powering the sub. If you open anything in your car, like a trunk, door, or window and it gets considerably louder, then the amp is probably not powerful enough to move the sub the way it was designed. RMS ratings and Peak ratings are very different from each other.

Give us some more info on your system please.

exactly what im trying to get at. there is a lot of math and stuff behind systems. i spent a few weeks designing mine. TBH your 15 is overkill.

15's are never overkill to a bass head! LOL... Nothing like making a whole trunk completely useless by making it into an air chamber for really big speakers!

Your right tho! Lots of math and planing involved. I've toned it down since my teenage years and only rock one really loud 12" now.
