well how your average person runs a 15, you can make a 12 sound if done right. i had a single 12 and it was more than enough, the box also took up the entire trunk lol15's are never overkill to a bass head! LOL... Nothing like making a whole trunk completely useless by making it into an air chamber for really big speakers!
Your right tho! Lots of math and planing involved. I've toned it down since my teenage years and only rock one really loud 12" now.
Power is somewhat meaningless when it comes to subs. box is much more important. What sub are you using, and is it ported or sealed, and what is the cubic feet of your box? Some picks of your equipment would be good.
Also, what amp are you using? It sounds like you might be under powering the sub. If you open anything in your car, like a trunk, door, or window and it gets considerably louder, then the amp is probably not powerful enough to move the sub the way it was designed. RMS ratings and Peak ratings are very different from each other.
Give us some more info on your system please.
UUMMMMM... Power plays a lot in the design of a sub woofer.Power is somewhat meaningless when it comes to subs. box is much more important.
OP, ditch the 15 and get a 12. It's louder because once the trunk is open, there's more air space for the sub to breathe. You're choking the sub in a small box in an even smaller trunk.
I agree with you. A single 12' properly set up can sound better then a 15" or 18" in a civic. Start playing with aeroports, and then your on a whole new level of loud!a CORRECT 15 inch box thats ported will take up your entire trunk. i think it said 4 cubic feet, and thats internal volume so you have to calculate that in. a couple 18s you need a suv or truck bed for
but honestly a 12 would be better, i can confidently say that my single 12 that was done correctly and powered correctly hit harder than your 15
and line drivers
Box is more important than power. Doubling his power now would net him 3db. Proper box would net him 12db+ depending on how small his current enclosure is.UUMMMMM... Power plays a lot in the design of a sub woofer.
Yes, box design has a lot to do with it too, and your prob right in saying that he is choking the sub if his box is too small.
That sub has a recommended 4 cubic feet! That's nearly as big as my old 18's I used to compete with.
lol it was my job to know this stuff
