My most recent phone crapped out on me and I'm looking to upgrade to a crackberry. I've always had slider phones and I want something with a full keyboard now and I want to have a data plan (internet) since I've never had one. I would go iPhone but they are just too damn expensive. I don't have a regular phone plan so I can't just walk into the store and say hey I want to upgrade or I need my phone replaced. I have to buy the phone at retail price without a plan. And I'm with AT&T.

I can get a discount on a Blackberry Curve 8900, Blackberry Bold 9700, and HTC Pure (ST6356). Yes, I realize they're older models, the phones will be brand new anyways. Does or has anyone owned any of these? Thoughts on them? I was even considering the LG Xenon but I don't know how I feel about it yet.

AT&T is really fair, at least they have always been with me. My other phone started falling apart because I used it so much within the first year. I went to AT&T in the exact same situation as you. Go to one of them and explain your situation and ask them if you can do what's called an early upgrade, so say the phone you want to buy is 499.99 with no discounts and you ask for an early upgrade, they can give you up to $200 off the price of the phone, though usually it's around 100 off. I would look into it, I got my X10 for like 199.99 without an upgrade available.

yup 3gs is 50$- for new subscribers. i think its $100 for the early upgrade, if not use your local craigslist to see if there are any used smart phones in your area. the problem with the iphone is that they got it right the first time lol, and everyone is trying to catch up, it is just set up in such a way that is easy to navigate, the learning curve is like 10 mins. i hate apple lol.

I love my Droid X.

The learning curve is less than 5 minutes. Swipe finger across screen either left or right for 6 other home screens, 3 on each side. Press the down arrow at the bottom to bring up the App window. Hit Home button to take you to the main home screen, press the back button to go back, press the Settings buttons on the left to see app settings, and press the search button to search Google. Go to Market, search for an App press "Install" accept the App permissions and it's done in less than a minute.

Press the Phone button on the bottom of the screen to make a call, press the person on the right to bring up contacts.

Android phones are nice... DON'T get the samsung galaxy s for AT&T.. my brother has it and hates it.

I would also like to recommend against any/all blackberries simply for their lack of expandability vs. iPhone/android phones.

I have had 2 different black berries...Tour and Storm. While i loved the keyboard on the tour didnt care for anything else. I have Had the Droid 1 and now the Droid X. Both are way better than any Berry out there. If i wasnt Spoiled by the Droid x screen i would get the Droid Pro just for the keyboard. I Say get a droid phone, think AT&T got the Motorola Atrix recently.

Everyone is saying go iPhone/Android over Blackberry. I asked my brother and he said Android isn't available for AT&T?

And I don't think any of you guys read my original post... I don't have a regular phone plan so I can't just get the iPhone for $50. My brother works for AT&T and he gets 2 discount plans for family members. So I just pay him every month. A full unlimited data plan would be like $70 as opposed to the what...$150+ for regular people? I would love to get the iPhone but like I said, because I don't have a regular contract plan, I can't just get a phone for cheap. I have to buy the phone straight up if I want it. And if any of you have looked at the retail price for a 3G, it's still like $400+. I've seen the 4G for $6-700 on eBay and said f**k that.

My brother has a list of phones he gets a discount on but, no surprise, all the iPhones are sold out. People jump on them fast. He's got another list but it's not working and he can't look into it and is going on vacation so I won't know for another week .

My brother has no idea what he's talking about because he doesn't keep up with phones either lol. He works in the network administrating part of the company. So he mainly works on computers, the network aspect, and sets up new buildings all around western/central NY. He doesn't deal with sales at all.

He's going on vacation for a week so I'll have to wait a week to hear back from him . Sick of using my temp phone right now that's from like 2002. It's a Samsung flip and it's so slow lol. Glad I saved my old phones though so I had something to fall back on.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S phone for US cellular and I LOVE it!! I haven't had any troubles with it and I have given this phone HELL!!
