I am new to the site, and while in the short time i have been on here i have seen the repeated questions and all i do is search the same question for ideas on how to answer, the problem is you will never get rid of that, you will always have the people who don't want to use the search section and or just don't use it, its like that on almost every forum i have been on. One thing i would suggest and maybe it was done before i dont know but the tech questions are all under one section for all Gens, I think it would be easier to navigate if you had it broken down like your members ride section, So if i own an 8th gen i can look at other peoples 8th gen issues instead of searching through everyones issues..this may make it easier to avoid the repeat questions as lazy people wouldnt have to look as far for their problem.

It was like this, we brought it all under one section (Which we were supposed to sort through and send threads to their specific section, but after moving 10+ pages of threads, you get tired of it) it would make it easier for searching, as your problem might not be related to just your car, but instead a universal part.

We have a "tags" feature for searching, which was supposed to help with this, 8th gen threads would be tagged with 8th gen, 7th gen with 7th gen, ect, so you could still search for keywords, but look for threads with a certain gen tag, it hasn't taken off that well, mainly because we haven't really shown how it works, and haven't been using it ourselves (staff members) so we have no one to blame but ourselves.

We use to have separate tech sections, I liked that. Dunno why they went to that huge mess of combining everything. I don't even remember when they made that switch. Seemed for me to happen over night haha

Just a thought and maybe it sounds dumb but something as simple as moving the how to tab to the left more might help with posting issues, reason i say that is most people come on the sight and just instantly click civic forums to get to the forums not noticing the fact that there is a how to tab, making it closer or next to it may make a person think of clicking it first before posting...idk just an idea.

I agree on adding keywords to the threads i start no matter what i try and put there it wont allow me to do it cant remember the exact message it pops up, but it wont let me. Since i think its like this for alot of people thats most likely why people dont bother putting the keywords in on the search feature since people cant seem to add them to their threads

This is the error message i get when i try to use the search feature in the how to section. the regular forum search usually works all the time for me.

"Your submission could not be processed because a security token was invalid.

It is always going to be hard to clear out the stuff people dont like and the things that are cuasing long term member to run but maybe you can make it easier just a little...Start a thread or something asking people to report pointless threads they come across, the ones people put up and never got a legitimate response, you have like 42k threads in general tech and there is no way you as moderators have enough time to go through them all in order to clear them out. while you have some great information in them there is also stuff you dont want and need to scrub. I understand this may cuase some of the people who think they are funny or immature to just report posts they feel are dumb(another way to flame them) but it is an idea for how you can have your members help you weed out the garbage you are trying to avoid and give them a sense of importance.

It may be a non issue but not what i meant really, i will def report things that are wrong but i meant to have people use it as a clean up tool for you, It would or could make search results better by getting rid of stuff from like 2003 that people know there is a better response for or the question was never properly responed to.. it may not be an issue to have those threads still on here as they all get put in order by date but it may add some unreliable search results.. again idk just throwing it out there..if i am off base with it i am sorry.

I do not post as much as I used to... the reason is unfortunately simple... It is hard to continue to give the same useful advice over and over again only to have it completely ignored...

I am certainly not the end all in Honda knowledge... but when you time and time again tell someone exactly how to accomplish what they are trying to do... and they just completely ignore you.. it gets really really really old.. ask people here..

Ironically, these new tech-hungry members, who you and other OGs have chosen to ignore and even harass, are exactly the people who represent the potential for growth and long term success of Club Civic. Don't shoot yourself in the foot. You and Jay Jay need instead to view these "annoying new members" as opportunities rather than nuisances. Embrace them. The future lies in finding creative ways to attract more such members and to keep them here. If you don't, another site will.

This is the ONLY forum I'm on that the SAME thread is repeatedly created by multiple users. Are we understaffed on mods? Too many sub forums? Not enough caring? I'm completely serious in these questions, and by no means am I trying to bash anyone.

As a mod staff, we all agreed not to put our personal bias into this thread, so you probably won't be seeing any of us answering those questions.... but we'd love to hear what everyone else thinks about them.

I completely agree. My point is that these lazy new members, whether you love them or hate them, represent the largest opportunity for Club Civic to build a new and larger member base. For example, new members who stay and participate will learn tech from OG experienced members and then become new teachers for future newbies. This frees up OG members to spend more time in the Club part of this site, if that's what they want, and still keeps the important tech side alive. Otherwise, we're looking at a Club Civic that will most certainly reach a dead end.

Well said. I am pretty much to the end of my build, and I am now at the point where I want to enjoy the car for a bit, cruises, meets, etc., then sell it for something else.

I don't want to sit and repeat myself over and over and over again on the same subject. I am MORE than willing to help, but the user needs some common sense and a BIT of intelligence first.
