HI All:

I'm pretty new here. I recently came in possesion of 2000 Honda Civic LX, 106K, auto
Overall great car, Tan color. Did a tune up, plugs, wires, fuel and air filter, front rear brakes.
Runs smooth and very quiet. Will do the distributor cap and ignition rotor in the next few weeks.
I do have a question. My fuel gauge fluctuates up and down and i accelerate and brake.
The previous owner put it a new fuel sending unit, i have the receipt for it and i also lifter the backseat to check.
I read lots of post, and most peope says it's normal on the Civic. Should i even bother to try and replace the fuel gauge/temp cluster? ( i found one online for $44) or just let it be. It doesn't bother me for the most, and i kind of know what mileage i can get with it. Most people say it wont help it a civic thing. Any help would be appriciated

Thanks

Though annoying, it's normal for Civics. But how much fluctuation are you seeing?

It wasn't too much at first. I would fluctuate a little. On monday i put seafoam in the tank, and ever since then it started fluctuating a little more, actually leaning towrds the top, if i accelerate it goes to normal, when i break it tend to go up (to Full) I don't know if one has to do with another, but if got me thinking, maybe i should add more gas to the current mixture. I only drive about 7-8 miles a day to work and back, so i don't use a lot of gas anyways

Sorry, but you are not telling me the amount of fluctuation. For example, when you have a half tank of gas, will the needle ever go to full when you brake?

I have 3/4 left now, so when i brake the needle tends to move up to full, but then i will go back.
I hope this helps

So when stopped on level ground, the needle is exactly midway between the full and half full mark. And when you start driving and are coming to a stop, the needle goes all the way back to the full mark. Is this accurate?

Yes sir, exactly

That's more fluctuation than I see for my 97 and 00 Civics. But don't get me wrong. When I accelerate or turn right, the needle goes down some and, when I brake or turn left, it goes up some.
