Could it be the valves needing to be adjusted how loud is the noise and anyway you can describe it better if possible.

Turning off the light:

The answer should be in the manual but you Hold down the trip meter button, turn the car to on, wait about 20 seconds, start the car, and let go of the button. Light is reset until the next mileage interval it is programmed by honda to come on at certain mileage intervals to let you know regualr maintence needs to be done. It being dosent really mean something is wrong with the engine just that its at a certain mileage.

I'm not sure about other generations but on the 6th generation (96-00) Civic's, all you have to do is use your key (or any small object) and push on the black button to reset the maintenance required "light" (it's not a light). All it does is remind you to do your maintenance as long as you reset it every time you perform regular maintenance (oil change, etc.). It doesn't mean anything.

Tiny bell? I think you mean ticking? Like the poster above said, you could juse need a valve adjustment. How many miles are on the car?

Go to this link and enter your vehicle information, which will then appear below your user name. This way, members know what car you drive when you ask tech questions.

it gets annoying, its like a sweekin bell ish noise, its really soft though
I assume you figured out the maintenance reminder by pushing your key into the slot, right?

Any noise like you describe in the engine bay would NOT be normal. Post a video with clear sound.

I got a video but the noise is kind of camera shy so Im not sure how well you can hear it. Also it only happens after I drive a few miles. I also added the car the garage btw.

ps. where should I host the video at?

I think YouTube is fine.

Are you guys possibly hearing valve tap? If so, you could try adjusting the valve clearances to see whether the noise is reduced or eliminated.

Another possibility is spark knock, if the noise is heard during acceleration. This can be caused by bad gas or misadjusted ignition timing.

it stopped for a day after getting new spark plugs installed. my motor lost just about all compression and would not start then the plugs washed out. its starting to rough idle again and the noise is back so im sort of confused why its striking in these patterns. Its to dark right now to shoot a video of the noise but in the morning it still there ill upload another.

Do a tune up (plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, ignition timing). Did you install the basic NGK spark plugs recommended in the owner's manual? That' the only type of plug you should use.

Any CEL codes?

Yes I used the ones recommended by the mechanic, also my car has never thrown a code even though things have diffidently gone wrong with it?

thanks again for the advice!

What plugs did the mechanic recommend? How old are the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor? Has the ignition timing been set to spec using a timing gun?

Does the CEL work? How have you checked for codes?

The whole bunch were replaced 6 years ago. Im not sure about the timing gun part that is currently out of what I can do with my skill set, ill call my mechanic and ask. All parts were replaced with new ones ordered from honda. As for the cel, the light turns on when I start put the key in and start to turn it on.. (cel, oil, battery, seatbelt, air bag and brake then they all turn off a second later) Im yet to check for codes myself because I do not have the tool (yet)

That's way too long!!! It's surely time for a tune up. Stay with Honda ignition parts. You can't go wrong with them.

This is easier than you think. A timing gun costs $20-$30 and you may be able to rent one free at an auto parts store.

You can pull codes with a short piece of wire (see CEL link in my signature), though if your CEL turns off after 2 seconds, no codes are thrown.
