i dont have money to do a car fax right now but i did want to do that, an the body looks like its in good condition, no rust or any major dents. but now having a salvage title makes me wanna get rid of it an get a clean titled shell because i dont want to build something for it to then have no value at the end of the day
the car is stripped now an there was body work that had to be done but there isnt now an its not like im trying to get a crazy amount of money like 7 grand for it but say i put a swap an put back in clean interior with fresh paint i would still like to get atleast 2k, at that point an salvage title would kill me on that part but im proally just gonna sell itJust because it looks good on the outside doesn't mean that it couldn't be a mess underneath. My first VW Beetle looked great on the outside, then when I stripped it to change the color up, I found the nightmare underneath. TONS of bondo and shoddy body work. Turned into a headache.
Like said above though, the resale isn't high on a 91 anyway so it probably won't even matter. Drive it until the wheels fall off, or part it out when you are done with it.
Building it will give you no value anyway, so it doesn't even warrant getting a clean title shell. What money do you think you are going to get back? Add ons give you almost no resale value. Sometimes they even hurt the value because it can limit your customer base.
Example would be the 94 hatch that I see every day on my way to work. They are asking $7k for it. Looks clean and it might even be fully built with a turbo. Who knows. What I do know is that it has been sitting outside the shop for at LEAST 9 months. They are trying to get out too much of what they put into it. NOT going to happen unless they finally hook that sucker buyer.
Sure you can't build it for under 7 grand, but most people don't see it like that. They see it as a 5th generation hatchback that is easy 3 grand too high.
To be honest, on a 91, salvage title isn't really going to hurt enough to make it a stressful situation. You are talking about putting ~$6k retail ($2k paint, $2k swap,$1k interior + original purchase price) into something and expecting to only get back $2k. That salvage title isn't going to sway that number much.the car is stripped now an there was body work that had to be done but there isnt now an its not like im trying to get a crazy amount of money like 7 grand for it but say i put a swap an put back in clean interior with fresh paint i would still like to get atleast 2k, at that point an salvage title would kill me on that part but im proally just gonna sell it
sorry but the prices you put are far off from what im actually gonna be paying, 200 for paint because its getting done at a school i have to pay for paint thats it(an what 2k paint jobs are you paying for even macco only wants 200dollars), i dont see where the swap would also cost 2k unless i was getting a type r swap which im not....an im putting back in the stock panels an getting cleaner seats out of an integra or something nicer then stock 91 civic seats an thats not gonna cost me 1k. original price of car 150dollars lolTo be honest, on a 91, salvage title isn't really going to hurt enough to make it a stressful situation. last statement made is very true, but i planned on taking the ls out of a da an swapping that in. I have front 3a racing seats (came with the car) an i was gonna get black da rear seats to match color wiseThe numbers were just an estimate.
Most Maacos are crap and you get what you pay for. $2k is a VERY STANDARD quote for a complete paint job. Most guys charge your $200 for JUST a bumper.
You never said what swap or where you are getting it so I was guessing at what typical swaps cost, plus the parts to mate them with your car and extras that pop up. Trust me the bill can get pretty high very fast.
Also interior can add up as well. You said clean interior. You never gave specifics so I guessed. To get some mint gsr leathers, front and back, AND make them fit you are looking probably around $300-500 if you don't cheap out. That is 1/3-1/2 way to the $1k that I quoted. The rest can add up very quickly. That is unless you cheap out. You did say clean, not half assed right?
Again, my numbers were just estimates based on what I have done and seen. This is your first car right? I have been doing this for over 15 years.
