Help me out..

I just got my 1998 4 door civic a couple weeks ago from my grandmother , this is my first car (im not to sure what the model is because she has the title ) and it is a 5spd so I am going to need a lot of help out with working on my car. The engine that is in the car at the moment is a d16y5, the work done to the engine is Dc sport headers , 3' greddy exhaust and injen intake. Some work done to the car is adjustable coil-overs and real si rims. One of my main questions is should i turbo the car? Is it worth it to turbo it? Note : i would only be pushing the car to 7psi. That would be the only question for now but it may take my a while to respond because i am always working I don't have very much time to go on the computer. Please help me out. THank you, Nate

Yes the D series engines can hold 8Lbs of boost with no problem... same goes for any vehicle its how you treat them and drive them. If you put boost on it and run it hard it will eventually break. The D series is worth building the only thing I suggest is when you build it you bore the cylenders out and sleeve them... this way your cylender walls can hold more pressure from the boost if you do a B swap the walls are strong enough you dont necisarily have to sleeve them. Building the D series engines is the cheaper way to go considering there are thousands of D engines out there, and im assuming since its a D16Y7 its a V-tech motor in which case definatly build thats a plus. Little facts about your engine it has 115Hp at 6300 RPMS and 104 Foot/Lbs of torque at 5400 RPMS Stock. And no worries you may have a four door but if I remember right your car only wieghs around 2300 LBs and after you boost it a little you will be flying. Well man thank you so much , I just learned a lot more about my engine that i never knew. The only time i will be running it hard is when i will be racing the fellow honda owners in my town ( we got a couple of people with gsr engines in their hondas and they are crazy fast )As far as i know the motor in it is a v-tech. Where should i get my cylinder selves and pistons at? Since it will be turbod do i have to chip the engine or can i leave the stock computer in it? I will post a picture of it soon so you guys have an idea of what i got to help me out with. Thank you for helping me out i really thank you a lot and thanks for the little facts . How much horse power do you think i will have if i do around 10psi of boost?

Well as far as getting Pistons and Cylender sleeves thats up to you... check out some of the items ClubCivic has to offer at the parts store tab on the top of the page. The brand you choose and price you pay is up to you. As far as I know you can leave the stock computer in the car and it probally wouldnt hurt to have it tuned after the turbo is intalled. You can check and see if im right becuase im not 100% sure but im pretty sure you can leave it stock. And if you run 10Psi of boost you will gain an easy 50-75 Hp plus what you already have done to your engine. And no problem with the help, I live, breath and sleep hondas Its what I live for. And also remember google and youtube are your friends always do research on everything before you buy or intall stuff that way your 100% sure your right

He's gpt some good info^ but the main thing you have to remember when boosting is that you need a really good tune, ESPECIALLY if you don't build the internals. With a good tune that thing will have power and reliability, it'll just cost you a bit. Depending on your cash you could go chipped ecu or if you got a whole lot of cash get a standalone system. Your best bet is to get the turbo then call up some local tuners and ask what they suggest, then whichever one you decide to go with you can go his/her route.

@ CustonCreations - Thank you for helping me out, you do know you facts about Hondas. I defiantly am going to go look at the store they have here to get some cheap selves and cylinders/pistons. I may chip the engine to get that couple extra hp but i definitely will leave the computer on it stock.

@ MistahJuice -i believe there is a local tuning shop that is only 30mins away from my door step so i will call them today to see how much a turn would be and to even make sure that they even do tuning but i deff will get a tune done to my car when i am done.

So the parts i will need to get will be a turbo kit, sleves, cylinders/pistons, DO i need to get a new fuel pump? and a engine chip.
One more question would be do i have to put a air filter on my turbo? or do i just leave it open? If i do add a filter would there be any hp gain? Thanks for all the reply guys, your helpin me out a lot!

You'll may need a new fuel pump, fuel rail, injectors etc depending on how much psi you intend to run. I don't believe you will for 7 psi but don't quote me on that, your tuner would be the one to tell you if you do. I would go bigger just because your bound to want to raise the psi, but then again you're stock rods probably can't hand a whole lot of boost. But I'm not very familiar with boosting D series so don't quote me on all that, this link should answer a lot of your Q's.

Just google the s*** out of it and you bound to find someone with your setup. But like I said you won't really know how much fuel you need or air you need or any of that until you're getting it tuned.

Oh, I was under the impression that your grandmother owned the car and had done all those modifications to it on her own, before giving it to you.

@ MistahJuice - I most likely will replace the fuel pump so i do not have problems in the future, Once i get a job again i will get rods and pistons and sleaves so i can go to 10psi ( that will be the highest psi i will go to)

Its pretty nice, im not going to complaine, i love it, i like the coler a lot and no a/c = more room for the turbo lol. But no a/c mans i can keep the windows open to hear that v-tech crack

I was also thinking of getting a skunk 2 intakes with a 70mm skunks 2 throttle body, should i do it or not?
